Can you permanently leave the ECU off or will the car not start at all? I'm going to do the switch mod because it doesn't seem hard at all but I was just curious if I can leave it off and drive... probably not but I'm wondering.

I have a 2000 Honda Prelude with H/E. I dynoed my car last November. After the first run I reset the ECU and did a 2nd run. With the ECU reset, there was no statistically relevant change in the hp or torque plots.

So I would say based only on my experimiment that, no, the ECU does not "tune out" modifications... And, no, my car did not loose the power it gained over time...

ok everyone, i have done the obd2 work around mod and in the process of converting to obd1...

with the work around mod, i keep the switch off all the time, in result my check engine light never comes on, learning program is disabled, and starting the vehicle seems like i need to gas it every time (like when you reset the ecu and start the car)

i have one question tho: since reseting the ecu makes the car start more hessitantly, is it normal for my car to be like this everytime i start my car? note that my work around switch is always off.

and also does anyone have the wiring schematics to the distributor and resistor pack? i have a 95 vtec distributor and resistor pack i need to wire into my 01 sh to convert to obd1.

Is it good to gas it before it starts or just keep turning the engine until it starts?

i just turn it til it starts, sometimes it takes a few seconds... and since we have fuel injected engines, there is no point in gassing it...

turn the key to the second knotch, the one right before ignition, and pause there for a second or two. This lets the gas lines pressurize and usually the startup doesn't hesitate. I use this when i start running low on gas too.
