Hey guys. I have a 98 prelude with 198,XXX miles. Not all the time but sometimes when i sit at stop lights for a while or wait somewhere with my car on it gets really hot. It will rise pretty far above half way between C and H. What could be the reasons to cause this?
Check to see if your fans run.
If they do then
Bleed your coolant system.
If problem still persists..
Test the engine coolant temp switch.
If the switch works fine..
Replace the thermostat.

I take directions well but I don't have the knowledge to know how to do all of that. If it doesn't bother you could you explain a little how to do about some of that? =) =)

Im about to check the coolant level once my car cools down this morning. But in the mean time, I wanna ask questions about the fans/fan switch.
So lets say I let my car idle and warm up. I can already tell you that its going to rise way above the normal point. So, in theory, when just sitting there in idle, even withOUT the A/C on, a fan should come on to keep the car cooled, correct? so if I let it run and the temp rises but I see/hear no fan come on, then it should be the fan switch?
Do you have white smoke coming out of your exhaust?
if you do you might have coolant in your engine from a blown head gasket.
I had this exact problem and it was my head gasket.
get it checked out quick b/c if your head gets to hot it could become warped
Im struggling a little. I cannot find a reservoir for coolant? Where is it? How do you check the level of coolant? Do you just poor it in the radiator itself after you take the cap off? Also, where the hell is the radiator fan switch? Can anyone provide pictures?
Quick note. Both fans run when I turn the A/C on, and both fans turn on when temp starts to rise too high. Im waiting to check coolant level because honestly I do not know how, waiting for a reply on my above post. Thank you all in advance
I would say the average price for a replacement radiator would be around $150... And to do simple check of the coolant level. All you have to do is remove the cap off the top of the radiator and pour coolant into it till it's almost full. You should be grateful that you caught that crack early enough (I hope so at least). lol
