Newbie from the UK

Well I gone and done it and I'm back in Honda ownership.... Woo hoo

Travelled to Bradford to pick up an S reg 1998 2.2VTi Prelude Motegi - Paid £1900 for it with 83k miles on it and in very good condition.

The paintwork needs a professional seeing-to as it has a faie few scuffs and light scratches on most panels; bumpers, sideskirts and drivers door 'may' get a respray but it's not urgent. They just need a good ploish for now

Spec is:

Comes with all the Prelude extras including:
4 wheel power steering,
Cruise control,
Electric tilt and slide glass sunroof,
Air conditioning,
Electric windows,
Laserline Alarm & Immobiliser
Anti-lock brakes (ABS)
Driver and passenger air bags,
17" Motegi alloys (21/45/17 crap tyres currently - Soon to be upgraded to Falken F452's )
Height adjustable steering wheel,
Remote central locking

Latest updates:

Updates:

1/ Well had this from Monday 05th July now and started already on the 'little' things

Got some nice interior mats in Black with Silver piping round them and with Prelude embossed on the passenger and drivers mats

Changed the gear knob to a Skunk2 weighted knob; standard gaitor still on but may sort that soon

Kenwood USB head-unit fitted to replace the standard Pioneer head-unit and 6 CD changer. Front and rear speakers will be changed very soon.

Removed the rear lights, cleaned all the cack out from behind them and silicone sealed the rubber on to the lights and then silicone sealted the seals around the lights to stop any further water ingress (wasnt a lot but it was there)!

New windscreen on Monday 12th July - had a stone chip that unfortunately has now turned in to a 5" crack

Went to EightSpeed on Wednesday for a 40min check over (they used to be called Unit-8). Mark said the car is in superb condition but still getting the brake lines changed to HEL braided lines. Having a de-cat fitted and standard exhaust system for now. Rear discs and pads to be removed and cleaned up; look fine but with standing for a while they've corroded a little. New clutch fluid change and brake fluid change also. New altenator, power-steering and air-con belts to be fitted

That's it for now Will get pics up of the head-unit and interior ASAP

2/ Bumper off today; resenator removed and the washer bottle was emptied and washed out with boiling water a few times. The growth in there was disgusting! Put a tiny bit of white vinager in to sanitise the bottle and rinsed through again before being topped up with Autglym super-clear screen wash

New bosch wipers fitted too; thank god as the old ones were deed!

Tegiwa Vtec silver solanoid fitted and Tegiwa socs fitted on PAS bottle, clutch and brake fluid bottles Car pulls and sounds better now with the resenator out

3/ Alpine 6 x 9's fitted in the rears today; sounds much better and deffo a marked improvement so may not bother with the fronts now unless I need to etc...

4/ The AEM V2 landed today from Prelude2.2 so cheers for that

Got it fitted but will get a crank case breather filter for the cam cover tomorrow and will loop the coolant pipe when I get the right diameter pipe

Ordered some clear front indicators as well and some chrome indicator bulbs. New Osram Nightbreaker headlights, main beam and some Osram 'blue' sidelight bulbs ordered. Need to get these fitted once they land so I'll be taking the bumper off to sort the condensation out in the passneger side headlight as well as fitting the new bulbs and indicators

Booked in at EightSpeed in Darwen for Monday 2nd August to get front and rear brake discs and pads changed (ADL Blueprint discs front and back / OEM rear pads and Ferodo DS2500 pads up front). HEL stainless braided brake lines, new clutch and brake fluid as well as a full oil change and HAMP filter.

Pics will come soon onced I've bought a new Digital cam; stood on my the other day

5 / Another small update:

Bumper off again today and both headlights removed; all new Osram H1 Nightbreaker bulbs fitted as well as bright, 'blue' Osram sidelights. New clear front indicators fitted with some chrome indicator bulbs; gets rid of the 'tango' look

The 3 flange nuts on the suspension towers were removed; really badly rusted so took my time in removing them and replaced with some new shiny M10 x 1.25 nuts

Crank case breather filter fitted to remove the 'botch' job I did as a temporary measure after fitting the AEM V2

Just ordered me one of these as well; Neuspeed front upper strut brace:

Should be with me in a few weeks from the States! A much better brace for the Prelude rather then the eBay specials that look exactly the same as the Tanabe ones but at a fraction of the cost! Plus the Neuspeed brace doesnt need any modifying; just a straight fit

Sweet!

I always though California would have more of a lemon-y scent.

More work to be done on the Lude on Monday (basic brake overhaul, new braided lines, discs and pads, PAS and altenator belts to be changed, decat (hopefully if the one weve got fits properly) and full fluid change (oil, gearbox oil, powersteering, brake etc...)

Will get pics up on Monday

You have the H22A8 with the M2P4 tranny, right?

What a clean Lude, minus the damaged trunk lid.

Nice lude. IMO I would switch out the woody panels for some carbon fiber looking ones.

Apple cider can be california, we are bigger producers of oranges though.

How about "Bottled Smog" or "Smog in a Can"?

What damaged trunk lid? Nothing up with mine apart from some paint imperfections & light scratches Will soon be sorted when I visit a professional paint restorer

My engine is the H22A8, not sure of the tranny; it's just an OEM 5-speed manual.

The plastic/fake wood interior and the front grill will be carbon vinyl wrapped soon; it's fine for now... I quite like the different look haha

Look at your own photos, around the tops of the taillights. The trunk lid comes down further than the fender piece. This usually only occurs when there has been a wreck & sloppy repair.

The transmission code is right next to the engine code, if you simply pop the hood.

Ah no that's my fault!

I tried to fit some aftermarket 6x9's in the rear shelf and didnt do enough research as to which ones fit best and ended up bending the bars underneath that connect both sides of the trunk lid...

Well me being me decided to undo it all and straighten it all out; re hung it and now it doesnt sit perfect BUT it closes fine and you dont really notice it unless you look

Same with the front and rear bumpers as well; took them off to give all the jams a good clean out and check for rust properly and you can never get them to hang properly again... Well I cant :P

I'm better at breaking things than I am fixing 'em

Nice Car!

I was looking into trying to import a 2000 Sparkle Yellow 5spd w/70k miles last summer from UK. It was mad cheap, they only wanted around $5k USD for it. To bad it was going to cost another $4k for shipping and to make it pass customs and be able to be registered here...

Sorry for the mini-thread jack, and again nice car!

Most 6X9 aftermarket speakers have larger magnets then stock and they hit the trunk torsion bars. The aftermarket speakers should be mounted ABOVE the rear shelf (from inside the car) so the magnets will clear the trunk torsion bars.

Nice ride and welcome to the forum. Are you a member of PUK too?

I managed to find some Alpines that sit perfectly They're about 5mm above the bars!
