Well, what can i say? Im 16, in Tucson AZ. My first car was my dads 88 SI with 4WS. But i just got a 97 like a week ago. And i got it cheap. Like $2000 so i HAD to get it. It has thrown two codes, the first was the O2 sensor, but i replaced that and it went away, but now i have code 9, 1382 to be exact.
I have swapped around the plugs to make sure it wasnt those.
I know i should have a list like:
Spark Plug Wires
Distributor Cap
Fuel Injectors
And finally possibly the distributor or actually the sensor.
But i wanted to make sure these would definitely get me closer to solving the problem. And i just sold my daily driver to buy this. So it needs to be able to pass emissions before August 20th.
And BTW, i work at my dads best friends auto shop. So i can get it done asap with your guy's reccommendations..
So c'mon guys, help a brotha out....
Marcus
pIERCE....there is a reason you remembered seeing a "similar thread"....that one you linked on PP was started by this same guy. I know you're trying to be helpful...but come on....he even has the same user name over there.

Yeah thats me. I just cant login...dont remember email or password lol.
And i noticed this is the REAL site. Bunch of users on here so i knew it would be better and i worte down the login ****.
But yeah....
Anybody have ideas?
How bout actually just resetting the ECU?
Yump. But do you think i can get passed emissions. Because when i first reset the battery, it went away for about 25 miles.
And i do, definitely want it fixed. But id feel safer with a license plate on the back of my car, TAGGED.
And i dont want to keep paying $1 for a 3 day permit and get pulled over every single day like i have
Here in CA, I tried that once, and they said, "no, your comp is in a testing mode, so it automatically failed, you need to go drive around a bit, then come back and we'll test it again".
Good luck. Try the whole "Forgot pass..", on PP.com
In AZ. As i posted in both threads lol.
I did. It wouldnt send to my email. I hit resend like 12 times. My email deletes the "spam" so im not even notified of a response to my threads....
But if thats the case (testing mode thing) theyll probably do the same thing here
when you reset, your ECU does go through a remapping phase to correct itself....so you cant just do that to bypass the test.
Its best to replace your ignition anyways.....a 2000 5th gen....probably hasnt been done.....20-30 for plugs (NGK Iridium), 40 for a Bosch Wires, 15-25 for the distro rotor from honda and then again you can get the cover as well to be replaced...all in all about 100-200, but your saving yourself since its being done by you and your co-workers....or you can go all out for the look and get the MSD getup, look cool and not need a single ounce of that "performance"
Thanks madcatz.
Well like i said, i work at a shop so we get the "dealer" discount. Tomorrow's pay day so im ordering platinum plugs, red NGK wires, rotor and cap. Then see where im at. Maybe try and clean my fuel injectors (whats the best way?), then go from there. And hopefully you guys wont be irritated by my questions throughout my whole process.
Thanks a million!!!!
Marcus
But the best advice anybody can give you is to follow the flow chart in the helms(they already posted it for you on PP) to actually fix the problem, not to attempt to cover it up. Have you already tried doing anything that was suggested to you?
Well i did check for continuity throughout my distributor. It checked out good according to my ASE certified boss. But thats all ive had time for at work. But fridays are slow here. Everyone is celebrating for the weekend, no one wants to be stuck at a repair shop....
Goddam it, why all this running around. Why don't you just replace you cylinder sensor? That's what code 1382 is for....I saw you entire old thread, and it said you did, but it also mentioned :
