I just got my new rims put on last week.. The new rims are 18x8" +40 offset and are running the same tires as my old rims which were 18x8.5" +44 offset.
The tires are Nitto T555 225/40/ZR18's.. The new rims seem to rub a considerable amount more now than they did when going over bumps at any speed really..
The old rims hardly ever rubbed only when goin at a considerable speed around curves or dips..
Well while I was at work yesterday I calculated the difference from the old rims and the new rims.. Plus when I had my old rims they stuck outside of the fenders about 1/4 inch.. So I went ahead and ordered me some spacers.. You guys say they won't work but i'm gonna try them anyway..
think about it. If you are rubbing on the inside already, and you put a spacer on, you are eliminating the rub on the inside BUT you create rubbing on the outside.

I do not need to explain anything to you.
My broken wings still strong enough to cross the ocean with.
My broken wings how far should I go drifting in the wind.
Since he already ordered them and is completely ignoring what seasoned prelude owners are telling him, he's just going to have to roll/pull fenders to make them work.
Take your 18x8 40mm add a spacer which will bring your offset into the 30s with a 225 wide tire. The rim and tire will stick out past the fender, so hard bumps and hard cornering will definitely = tire rubbing on the fender.
Yeah that guide is the best thing ever. Its what I used when I purchased my wheels and tires and my car is slammed and I don't rub ever! Anyways, you should take a picture when you get those spacers on. Just curious to see what it looks like.

Well here is the thing.. The tires are only rubbing on the back.. So turning doesn't even matter.. And my car is not lowered 1" it sits at stock ride height..
This is what I think.. My old rims were 8.5" wide with a +44 offset.. My new ones are 8" with a +40 offset..
From what I know to measure the offset you take the midpoint of the 8.5" and subtract that from where the rim mounts.. So thats 5.98-4.25=1.73 now 1.73x25.4=44mm
The midpoint of a 8" rim is 4.. So thats 5.58-4=1.58 1.57..x25.4=40mm
Now to mean that means to make the new rim sit at the same offset as the old one you push it out .19" which still doesn't come close to the .5" difference in the overall rim width..
If my logic is totally wrong then I'll just be wrong but that is how it all works to me.. Now when I get the spacers and put them on.. If i'm completely wrong and you guys are right then I'll admit it..

My 8.5" rims stuck outside of the fenders and they never rubbed on the outside..
