Use Mobil synthetic and you should be putting in at least 91 octane for best performance.

For starters, the manual tells you to use ONLY premium unleaded gasoline (91 octane or better). As for the oil, the manual tells you to use regular 5w-30 for cold climates and 10w-30 for those that live in hot climates. A lot of people swear by synthetic or synthetic blends as well. Use the search function and you'll find a lot of threads regarding oil. Also, since you're a new owner, frequently check the oil level because 5th gens are notorious for burning it.

Ok, after that. As far as performance, what would you recommend is the best bang for the buck. Or as far as looks, what is the best thing to do?

In terms of performance I would personally get some nice shocks and springs with a couple strut bars. All this could cost less than $750 and you'll definitely feel the difference. You could spend money on bolt-ons (i.e., air filter, exhaust, headers) but you won't feel as much a difference unless you get some kind of forced induction or major engine work to really get the full benefit out of those bolt-ons. As for looks, I would get some nice rims which would also help out the car's ability to handle since you would be getting wider tires (more surface area to the asphalt).

This site is FULL of useful resources. The best thing for you to do is spend a few days SEARCHING through the faq and tech forums.

I have treid multiple oils in a couple of my different hondas< like Royal Purple, Royal Purpal 21, elf, mobile 1, red line, Motul 300v, eonos, and valvoline, all sythetic and all 5w30. In my prelude i got the best results with the enoes 5w30. There was less oil lost due to burning and the engine performed noticably better. The downside is that soemrtimes finding it can be very difficult. I always use octane 94 fuel and i check and top up my oil every single fill up. I would also if i was you get a second copy of the key made, especially if you do not have the red "learner" key, i hope the previous owner had given you that with the car, you will need it. Change out all your plugs and do a good tune up, just so you know what kinda shape your car is in. These engines and cars are very finicky and can cost alot if the maitenance is not maintained.

Oh yeah... I never formally introduced myself, either.

Well, I'm a new member and a new 'lude owner. It's my first car purchase. Previous car was a 1990 Camry -- my parents were the original owners, then I drove and maintained it for about a decade. She still runs, but I want something with, y'know, power.

Here's a shot of my 2000 CBM:

She's bone stock. I don't have any strong desire for upgrades at the moment, but I might change my mind in the future. There are some amazing cars here.

This site looks like a great resource. There are so many things I want to do, and many of them are archived (although not all with working pictures ).
