New Here with some questions with knock/dieng

So I sold both my eclipses and bought a good ol Honda.

I got this Prelude for dirt cheap.
$3000.

Has over 20k invested into, the guy said he just grew up from it.

Well it has 33k miles, H22 VTEC, Turbo kit, greddy BOV,greddy piping.
Lowered, nice suspension, clean interior, black rims, body kit.

Its pretty nice.

Theres only a few issues with it.

First of all it runs like ****.
Like it thumps when I drive and stuff.
It needs a tuine up bad because its been sitting for like a year he said.

There is a very loud knock coming from the motor and I have no clue what it could be..

Also, Sometimes when I press the clutch in the motor bogs down like it will die and sometime will.

I know the BOV is not recirculated either, but my main concern is the knock, it dieng, it smokes from the tailpipe, and from the engine. Its a 5 speed but first was an automatic.

Any thoughts?

thanks alot guys and I hope this is a great forum.

First off, you already sort of answered you first issue: give it a major tune up(all fluids/filters, rotor/cap, even plugs/wires couldn't hurt). Go from there. I am no genious on engines, by far. So as for the dieing and knocking, may try and take that to a professional mechanic, being as you don't sound like much of a mecheanical genious youself(unless you state otherwise ). Good luck.

Yes, I think there are a lot of people with knocks, but the mojority can't figure it out beyond bent valves and such, so you may end up having to take it to a mechanic. But at least you sound willing to work on it yourself. Hope you can at least fix it yourself.

Good luck.

P.S. don't expect your car to be opperating properly any time soon. If your car knocks, I think that is a pretty obvious sign that the last guy ran it into the ground. It is great if this guy really did put 20k into this car, but if he did 2k worth of damage...

Sounds like you bought someone else's broken project. Sorry.

I hope you can get it running without spending an arm and a leg.

seems like u got a deal even with a knock i beleive, if its a good deal turbo and built engine it doesnt hurt to put 2g to fix the motor due to a knock, cause u will have a fully built lude with like about 5grand. =]

Nice looking car btw. Its still worth the money even needing a new motor. The knocking sound is the biggest concern as it can be the most expensive to fix. If the knocking is there all the time then is the sound coming from the top of the engine or does it seem to be coming from lower down? If its coming from the top then it could be the camshaft(s). If its coming from lower down then it can be your bearings(shells). Either way it won't be a cheap fix especially if its the latter. Now could be the time to rebuild your engine or find a replacement motor. Take it to a mechanic to confirm then go from there.

Yah I would rather rebuild so I can put high end parts in there.

I mean the Greddy Turbo kit alone was like 3.1k.
Plus the 4k suspension.
plus the 1k body kit.
1k rims.
1k stereo system

and theres more done.
i still got a really good steal.

spun rod bearing? that happened to my 92 si a few years back and it sounded like some one was banging a hammer under my hood when i drove it. change your oil and check for metal shavings in it.
