first of all, what do you have, an auto or a manual? I wouldn't get the DC bars, they tend to bend and are made of crappy material in my opinion. I would get some AEM pulleys, they're affordable and you'll feel the improvement power wise immediately.

thanks for the suggestions! please keep them coming.

I have a 97' base 5 sp with 78,000miles

what cams are good....skunk 2??? also the AEM cam gears? what are your thoughts on the different stages with the cams...should I get a stage 2 from the start..so I don;t have to waste money later on down upgrade road, or is it over kill and will add problems.

I've been thinking about cams and adjustable cam gears, good amount of bank to get them...but i think it would be the most logical linear purchase after the aem pulley set.

more suggestions give them...thanks this board is the shiz...

peace

The pulleys would be a good logical next item for the engine . . . .

Cams are a big step, and require a pretty big investment to get the most out of (fuel/ignition tuning).

What kind of tires are you running on? They can make a huge difference in performance.

BFG g-force kdw...dry/wet old style tread...i don't like the new style tread...ooooo flames..i like the straight design better, i noticed a huge difference right away.

so next steps are

aem pulley set...
then cams and adj. cam gears...

after I figure out what brand and stage...
so your saying to get the most out of the cams I will need a ignition control module, like a MSD, to compliment the cams. and I guess then need to do the coil, cap and rotor.

so should work on the ignition system/fuel system first then cams.adj cam gears...will I notice a gain from this?? or very minimal gain from the ignition system...

aem pulley set
msd ignition control
msd coil, cap and rotor
then fuel system
then cams.adj cam gears...

would putting better injectors, fuel rail, and a better fuel pump be over kill now...or wait till jrsc....a while down road..

learning a lot here thanks...keep it coming..

peace

look into the NA section or the FI section here for more info on JRSC or cams and cam gears

you could also look into loosing weight from the car to help its weight to WHP ratio.

you might really want to ask around in the NA section, but i think you'll be good with your injectors for a while
if you have the money to spend you might think about a Hondata or AEM EMS too, expecially if you get the cams just for you fuel tuning needs

and as for the DC bars......i have the DC rear upper and it SUCKS...it bends just by me pushing on it
I also have the rear lower one and i noticed a big diff. from it and it doesnt bend just by applying pressure
you might want to click the link in my sig or check out R&D motorsports for spoon bars

oh yeah and welcome, get some pics of your car up in the members section.

also.... stage two cams should be fine from Crower, they even make a stage 2 with stoke idle lobes so your car doesnt idle rough.

Actually - I didn't mean upgrading the ignition system or whatever. That won't hurt, but certainly isn't necessary & you rarely see much power from it. Same goes for a fuel rail & fuel pump.

By ignition tuning I meant as in programmable engine management - usually goes hand in hand w/ fuel tuning. So something like Hondata, AEM EMS, Greddy E-manage, the EFI PMS, etc. None of them are all that cheap, and you'll need wideband O2 tuning to get set up properly w/ your new cams.

An Apex'i VAFC is a good lower-budget option for tuning some fuel issues, but you won't see the most out of cams with one.

Don't bother with injectors, fuel rail, or fuel pump. You don't need these things unless you go FI, and even then the parts you choose will depend on your planned setup.

If you are seriously considering JRSC, then don't get cams or cam gears. The cams you would choose now would not be appropriate for JRSC, and to tune the cam gears properly the blower would need to be removed every single time you wanted to access the gears to adjust them when tuning them.

one of the best bolt on mods are motor mount inserts !!! i have felt a big diffrence in how the power is put to the ground ,yes you will get some vibration but for what they do its so worth it...also i think you are doing fine with the mods you have done !!and ya the dc bars are junk..

I'm am serious about the JRSC I dream about it often....no for real I do...theres something wrong with me...lol

I would love the AEM EMS hmmmmmmm tasty.

so what you guys are saying is just save up for the JRSC, sounds good....also what helps compliment the JRSC...and what is bad to go with...like the cams, from what sharkcohen said.

damn this board is nice...lots of good advice guys...saving me a headachhe and money...

...thanks..starting to do some more searching...and looking in the FI section of the site...

peace

Rob
