New/Different AEM Cold Air Intake???

I've read some posts as of late where some people are talking about a new and improved version of the CAI that many of us, including myself, have now. Whats the big difference and will there be an improvement?

With all of the stuff I listed in my sig and learning how to launch my car I went from 9.98 in the 1/8 mile to 9.67. That doesn't seem like a lot, but it probably translates into going from the mid 15's in the 1/4 to the mid to high 14s. Dramatic enough for me, at least

I think the only new thing is the air filter. They have an AEM filter instead of K&N...wow !

How can a filter so dramatically change things? I thought it would be a larger tube or something.

So are the current filters on the AEMs K&N? Or are the new CAIs supposed to come with K&N filters? If that is the case, can I just buy a K&N cone filter and have a new AEM CAI?

Well, no actually the "old" AEM CAI contained the K&N filter... the "new" CAI has an AEM filter... a new one they've designed themselves. I'm not sure if AEM will sell you just the new filter... they should though in my opinion.

Hmmm. I actually get a really odd sound with my CAI at around 7K rpms. It has the great deep throaty sound but at around 7K it has a tinny type sound as well. Would the new air filter cure that?
