Need HELP!!!( Immobilizer unit)

Hello all fellow 'Lude owners , Well i have a 97' that wont start sometimes and the green key light will flash..i believe it the Immoblizer unit( ignition) but I'm not sure..Sometime the car will just "shut off" completely while driving and the key symbol will flash on the dash..It like the car loses signal from the key and sometime wont start,I have even tried the Valet Key which is never used and that doesnt always work..I was just wondering if anyone experienced this problem with there 'Lude I believe that 97' was the only year for the Immoblizer Unit in the 'Lude..any help will be much appreciated

Nope, all the 5th gens have an immoblizer.

Your problem is more than likely caused by a failing ignition swich, which just so happens to be covered by a recall. Give a local Honda dealer a call, give them your VIN number, and find out if the recall has already been performed. If not, then they will replace it for free.

My car had the recall done before it bought it so I personally haven't had that problem. However, it is an exetremely common problem for 5th gen preludes...hence why Honda recalled that part.

I have the exact same problem, did you come up with a solution?... A few years ago I cleaned the contacts from the ignition switch which helped with starting, but I don't think this has to do with that at all.

Is it possible for someone to completely remove the immobilizer transponder and replace it with an aftermarket bypass, remember this is without having the immobilizer in the car anymore. At least that's how I find my car to be.

Little did I know the trouble I was in for when I first bought my car(used), someone butchered the harness that clips into the transponder and there's no wire sticking out of the clip now to reattach the harness together. Even if I wanted to, I DON'T HAVE THE FRICKIN TRANSPONDER IN THE CAR TO HOOK BACK UP! Sorry for yelling.

So, what I need to know is how can I replace the faulty aftermarket bypass with a new one, cause my understanding of a bypass kit is you need the transponder in the car so the bypass can learn the code to send to the ecu.

Is there a way to chip the ecu so it disables the immobilizer???

wow....your situation does not sounds fun at all. You shoulda just got the immobilizer recall doen and you would be all good. After I had the immobilizer recall done i phoned my insurance and had Honda write a letter syaing what the immobilizer does and faxed it to my insurance broad then i got like 18 bucks deducted off of my payment. The immobilizer is a great thing as it makes your car almost impossible to steal.

yea i agree it is a good thing to have as long as you have enough keys and all. I have an original and a t5 made. When I bought mine it did not have the red key and i freaked out when I decided to get a copy made but then found out about the t5 on the forum....yes the dealer told me the only way to get around my problem at the time was to get a whole new immobilizer and key set for like 600.. they conveniently never told me about the t5 so I went to another dealer lol. I think the unit is why cars like the honda civic is usually the number one stolen car in America, yes they are more common than ludes but i can imagine a lude being a prime car ppl would wanna steal
