I don't need a write-up, but could you give me a quick run-down of how to take the parts off and what to look for. I'm gonna take them off and look for wear to see if I need to replace them or not.

Ha ha....that sounds like a request for a write up to me . I'll do it. But I can't do it RIGHT NOW. Later this evening.
Hmmm...interesting comment, all things considered.
What is so dam interesting about it??? Copper plugs = shorter life. Copper plugs = very very cheap (1.5-2 bucks). Retarded comments like that this forum can DEFINITELY DO WITHOUT.

What's so damn interesting is how you advise other people to change their cap and rotor at 90k, platinum plugs at 105k and copper at 30k...yet when it comes to your own car...

I change my plugs every spring. Just to know I have a fresh set in there.
If you bothered to look at my cap and rotor pictures at 22k miles or Joon's cap & rotor at 42k miles, you may have picked up on a trend here...that your advice is simply wrong. What this forum can DEFINITELY DO WITHOUT is bad advice from you.

First of all, why don't you stop putting words in my mouth. If you learned how to read correctly, you would have noticed THIS:

the spark plugs dont need to changed until 105k. As for teh dsit cap and rotor, it is not mentioned in the owner's manual, but I'd prolly do it at 90k, but checking it every now and hten b4 that to make sure its in good condition.
I told her to check it now and then BEFORE 90k to see if it's in good condition. If the cap and rotor make it to 90k, then I'd just get it replaced regardless of condition at that point. As for the honda OEM platinum plugs, I'll take Corporate Honda's advice over yours ANY TIME, ANY DAY. As for copper, I drive on average 20-25k a year. Like I wrote b4, I dont mind spending 8 bucks and changing them out 5k miles early. I do that, flush the brakes, and clean the K&N filter every spring. I think for the 15-20 bucks or so, those are worth the money.

Just becuase your cap and rotor went bad @22k we should all get them changed so quickly? And you're saying my advice is wrong?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
The only trend I see is that the more you post, the more ignorant and stupid your replies become. This will be my last post on this, because at the rate this is going, I'll have to be able to speak chimp to keep up.

Just becuase your cap and rotor went bad @22k we should all get them changed so quickly? And you're saying my advice is wrong?!?!?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA This is the 5th Honda car in my family, and including motorcycles is our 7th. I've done the majority of the maintenance in these cars (change cap, rotor, spark plugs, all filters, all fluids, brake jobs, etc), so I think I can safely say that I know a thing or two bout Hondas. On several of those cars, I replaced the dist. cap and rotor at around 90k miles. My advice is based on years of experience, which Im sure is more than you can say for yourself.

Originally posted by PilotSH most upper end cars now come with 100k+ mile spark plugs. I doubt that Honda engineers would lie in the owners manual becuase if the plugs crapped out b4 105k, tehn the car's reliabilty rep could be damaged. Also, engineers and manufacterers always tend to quote things on the conservative side, so I bet the plugs can go even longer then 105k.
Not only is changing any plug at 105k BS, Honda has even backpedaled themselves on this. You don't think the engineers would lie? Maybe they don't but the tech writers for the manuals do. Honda recalled a ****pot of vehicles for emissions failures; under this recall you can take you Prelude in and have the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and O2 sensors changed out free of charge.
Most manufacturers are quoting this as a marketing ploy (100k mile tune up) to get people to buy their car. This is in line with Honda's emissions policies/statements.
As mentioned already in other words, ignition components wear with respect to # of firings or RPMs. If you stay in VTEC a lot, you'll need to replace everything sooner. I replaced my cap, rotor, and plugs every 10-15k miles while racing. Without racing I'd do them every 30k. I wouldn't let a car go past 60k even on platinums, no matter how lightly it's driven. I'm sure it's possible, but I've never seen a plug, cap, or rotor that's been worth a damn after 60k miles of driving of any sort.
The lifespan of wires are usually expressed more in age and thermal cycles... mine usually get replaced every 4 years here in TX, I'd suggest 3 years up north.
Plugs, caps, and rotors are responsible for more emissions, power, and performance problems than anything else on the cars I work on. Do yourself a favor, divide all the service intervals on the Honda manual by a factor of two. It's relatively cheap insurance.
