need help finding out whats wrong

:it only hooks onto first gear and sometimes revs so high up past red line that i have to throw it into N becuase it wont go anymore then sometimes gradually gets into another gear or doesnt at all and i have to put it in reverse just to get it going forward again lol .. last time reverse didnt work and the forward gears worked then everything broke and one day fixed its self where everything was working then i gave it to much gas i guess and it happened again . What could be the problem ???? and if i cant fix it should i sell it?

Not sure why we need to be condescending to noobs.

Max, the auto transmission on the Preludes is known to be a high failure part. It sucks. You'll find plenty of posts (and faq entries) regarding this. Unfortunately there is no quick or cheap solution. Replacing the tranny will likely have the same problems years down the line and from what I hear swapping to a manual isn't trivial either. Your options may also depend on your budget and how handy you are with a wrench, but overall it doesn't look good.

What year is your car and how many miles are on it? Any check engine light?
