Need Help Appraising 01 Prelude

I blew the engine in my 01' Prelude SH over the summer. I think I threw a rod. I am wanting to sell the car. The engine had over 200,000 miles on it when it happened. I am not really sure what to ask for it. I had an accident in it before all this happened. The front bumper was beat up and the driver's side front panel and door were beat up pretty bad too. I know I am probably not going to get a lot out of the car. How much do you guys think I could get from a junk yard or from a personal buyer? I really loved the car. I bought it brand new in 2000. If you guys could give me any kind of rough ideas on what I should ask for it that would be great. Thanks for the help guys.

well it has been rebuilt so i would start with $2000 so when people negotiate you have room to go down. i wish i had stumbled upon a one owner prelude. but no, i was dumb enough to purchase a car with 8 previous owners. man i can be so dumb sometimes

everytime you get a new car you "test it out" right? that means my prelude has been raped quite thoroughly. the first owner had it like 4-5 yrs then all the other owners had it for like 6-12 months. lots of rapage going on. then i bought it and continue to beat on it. although i do let it warm up before driving

Not ever mature human being does that you know. That's a typical characteristic for a teenager...

I treated my car like royalty when I first bought it. I wanted it to last. I didn't shift over 4k RPM for the first 5 months I had it. I still baby it and it doesn't even look nice.

I bought my 97 SH last week for $500, has a thrown rod and needs a new engine, paid $1250 for a long block, and gonna pay $400 to a buddy to help me put it in, all in all a little over $2k for the prelude itself. Basically a new engine will normally run about $1800-$2300, and a shop is going to charge about 11.5 hours of labor, so you'd have to figure a shop's labor (its 11.5 hours on w/e book it is they use for a sh model with AC compressor and power steering, asked a shop friend to look it up for me). Shops in my area charge anywhere between $75-$99/hr so labor will probably run $800-$1200. Your looking at about $3k-$3.5k for an engine replacement done by a shop, so find KBB price, knock off $100-$300 for bumper, then $3-$3.5k for engine, and that will be your negotiation point, i'd say start it about $3-400 above that price and lower it down negotiating, people like it when they can haggle a price down, they think they're one uping you :P

EDIT: Mine is costing me less, because I found a steal on a great engine, and i have friends who can help me put it in (i can do it myself, but i'm lazy :P) But per the value of this car ($5.5k, 236k miles, great condition other than engine) minus the $3.5k, i should have paid $2k for it, its nice to know people who take care of their cars and keep great service records and want a new Acura TL....

thats funny because i swore i would take care of my prelude. i wouldnt rev it unnecessarily or anything like that. however within 2 weeks of ownership i was already powershifting etc. now i need new synchronisers for 2,3,5 gears. maybe even 4 because its notchy shifting into it. expensive lesson learned. i guess its just one of those things you learn in life. wish i could take it back but its too late
