I don't know why you'd need to use one HG over the other, so I'm asking you to explain so I can understand.

In other words I'm not being a smart ass, I really am curious for future reference.

oh my bad mate, I always knew the A4 will fit the A block, but then did some research and many sources say use the head gasket from H22A.

Because an H22a is closed deck and an H22a4 is open deck. Smart ass.

I think you two might be forgetting something. The 5G was released in Japan in 1996.

How can you be so sure? Did you sell him the engine?

No sir i, did no such thing, however, of the amount of engines i have bought/shoppedfor/sold/aquired, i have yet to see a 97+ jdm h22 get swapped in and then sold to someone. With the exception of the accord type r engines as i have seen a few of those.

So i guess, i cannot say for certain this is NOT a 97+ one, however, given the odds, i would put all my ponies in the one stable.

You're missing the point. In JDMland, the 5G Prelude came out in 1996. So there are 1996 open deck engines, which is why I asked for the serial #.

I understand completly why you inquired to the serial, however, i am fairly certain his engine is closed deck. But now would also like you to have the serial so we can find out, or the OP to remove the head and look.

Either way he'll find out when he goes to do the work and then he'll know what head gasket to order.
