My dipstick doesn't have a high-low mark

Engine oil is leaking in my car and i cant test the oil level of my car becuase the dipstick doesn't have the usual high-low markers on it. Roughly how many inches should the oil crawl up to on the dipstick? I need to know before i take it into the mechanic on wednesday so i can drive it now till then without killing the engine. Also, how do u check the level of tranny oil in the 98 manual lude?

Thanks in advance for the help guys

Your dipstick should two holes in it, and oil should be at the hole on top. How could your dipstick not have any marks on it..that'd defeat the purpose of dispstick. If it's the wrong dipstick, it'll be the wrong length, and us telling you how high it should be won't make any difference.

As for checking the trans fluid level: add fluid to the fill hole until it's full. There's no dipstick for the manual trans.

Download the service manual: www.spoonhonda.com . That has the answers to all your questions and more.

Mate, i am such a noob. Sorry, ur rite. The dipstick does have two holes as markers. My bad. As for trans fluid.

One more question that may seem stupid. But can i mix different types of trans fluid? I just bought this car and its leaking trans fluid. Im bringing it in to mechanic soon. But i need to make sure it has enough till then. Im not sure what fluid the previous owner is using for the transmission. Can i just poor any branded gear oil for now?

Also, is it safe to keep driving when trans fluid is low? What are the signs that trans fluid is at danger levels? like do the gears start grinding or do u hear transmission noises? When do u stop driving?

Thanks so much for the help
