is this my clutch going out? what gives?

I have not driven my 5th gen lude for a week. I get in the car and I press the clutch and I cannot shift into any gear. It is not going in and i had to move it around, it went into first. I tried to reverse and it was very hard to get into.

**after about 2 mins of driving it was fine. And for the rest of the day it was fine.... signs of my clutch going out?

Sounds very similar to what my clutch was doing when I had to replace it. Two of the clutch springs had broken. It would refuse to go into gear at certain times, then it would drive fine for days or weeks at a time before seizing up again. How many miles does your clutch have on it?

It's possible it was your clutch. It's also possible it was just air in the system.

However, that is what my car did when my clutch was going. I also broke two springs.

Clutch job at stealership is closer to $1000, more if you have an SH.

AllData times for Clutch is 8.3 hours (With ATTS, SH) or 5.8 hours (without ATTS, base model). Add another .4 hours for flywheel R&R

Figure costs of parts, then labor cost, and you can get your rough estimate of cost. Most good shops around here charge $75 - $85/hr, (and the crappy ones charge $99/hr, wtf...)
so that puts a Base in the price range of $500-600ish, SH in the range of $7-800.

Personally i'd check reservoir like Kronn and KraserK suggested. I've had 2 clutches go on me (one in my del slow and the other in my camaro) and there is usually noticable slipping, it will go into gear just fine though.

prelude and accord clutch master cylinders seals are notorious for leaking too. check fluid level at reservoir like was sugested but also look under dash at the clutch pedal where the clutch pedal pushrod goes through the firewall. theres a seal there that could be leaking and usualy shows fluid going down the inside of the firewall if its bad and would cause symptoms like you described. if so the cure is new mc.

does the clutch pedal feel like it has more 'play' than it should or does it feel nice and firm, like it should, when you press it down? if the pedal has a lot of play then youre probably losing clutch fluid somewhere or theres an air pocket in the line causing the clutch to not disengage like its supposed to. not to sound like an echo but checking your clutch fluid should be your first mission because its the most likely problem and the easiest fix.

i guess broken pressure plate springs is a possibility but i wouldnt think the problem would just go away after driving for a few minutes. why would the pressure plate not lift off the clutch disc sometimes but work fine others? id think the problem would be more consistent but i dunno.

With mine, I think the broken springs shifted. At times it would not let me put the car in gear. I could be trying to go home from work after the car sat for hours, or I could be at a stoplight. Nothing I would do would get the car in any gear. Both of these instances I left the car and returned, just about ready to call for a tow, and the shifter would suddenly glide good as new.

my clutch went out on my 2000 type sh. i put a greedy stage 2 performance clutch, new pressure plate, throw out bearing and had my flywheel machined. the labor was only $275. i dont know how much OEM parts are. but when i got my car back from the shop it drove fine for about 2 days then it started to slip even worse. i was beyond PO'd. i looked under my dash at the actual clutch and saw that it was leaking brake fluid into my floor board. so i replaced the clutch master cylinder. when i did that it solved all of my clutch problems. so if i was you ca86108 i would replace the master cylinder first. i am a auto tech and i did my master cylinder myself so i did not have any labor charges. but my main advice to you if you do it yourself, when you go to bleed the system you HAVE to gravity bleed it or you will never build up pressure in the line.
