Has anyone noticed that their 5th gen makes farting sounds after an hour two after driving. Today I was in the garage and the car farted and did it a few times over the last couple of hours. This was after driving home from work. Not sure what's up with that but just was curious. I suspect it's the cooling system sucking in fluid as it cools down. I never noticed this noise before. Kinda weird

The sound is more like a cellphone on vibrate that resonates through a table top rather than a true fart sound. The sound lasts about 3 or 4 seconds then fades away. I can't tell if it's coming from under the hood or somewhere else on the car. I filled up the gas tank today so I will see if it does it again.

Quite a common thing with older Honda's... Although I've never heard of a Prelude doing it!
All of my old CRX's 'mooed'... We called it mooing as is sounded like you had a cow in the boot... it really makes people jump if they walk past when it does it!
It's basically down to the pressure vent pipe thing from the fuel tank gets blocked over the years, as the pressure builds/drops in the fuel tank the pressure difference is forced to slowly escape rather than naturally flow.
I guess it's a bit like letting a balloon down, if you squeeze the end together it squeals!
lol that makes me feel so much better tham my 5th gen isnt the only one mooing, it scared the hell outta me the first time it happened after a long road trip i thought some animal was stuck in the engine bay cooking to death, i traced it to a round selinoid thing on the firewall it only happens on hot days after a long drive.
It's the fuel tank releasing pressure or something, and I hear it is perfectly normal. I don't think it necessarily happens with age, as I have heard it is supposed to do it.
By and by...my car also makes a similar noise. It is definitely coming from the fuel evap system. I verified this with a stethoscope, after I told it to turn it's head and cough.
I think you'll find that noise your hearing is the ABS system primeing itself and not the fuel tank
I agree, when you first start moving your honda, you will hear the ABS system run the pump as a test of the system when it senses movement from the wheel speed sensors. So it may do this after a couple hours of driving too. This will be a pain the next time I take someone on a test drive of the Prelude I have for sale because customers are scared off by odd sounds from new cars. haha.
Ive always wondered what that noise was, ive only ever heard 2 ludes do it, mine and one other persons, but my previous ones have never done it and ive never heard any other car make the noise. Sounds like its coming from the IM, its so weird, everyone says my car is dreaming of racing when it makes the hummm lol.

The noise I was talking about is in fact the ABS system, I knew it wasn't the fuel tank :-p
And next time I go on a trip and come home I'll set up a camera or something to capture the noise. It's not very loud, it's pretty suttle and you kinda have to get lucky to catch it
I've heard some farting noises when the car sits for long periods of time and then you start up and let it idle. Its the noise coming from the water in the exhaust. But I never heard of the noise you ppl mentioned.
