I am looking to lower my car(not for looks but for street performance, cornering and handling), and someone offered me a brand new set of Mugen Showa sport suspension springs and shocks for $800 brand new. Is this a good deal?? Is this a quality product?? For $800 is there a better proven setup for the price??
it drops your car about 1", ride quality will be near stock but handling much improved....however, if you're looking for more performance, $800 will get you Tein SS, and a little more will get you Tein HAs...these are fully adjustable ride and height coilovers, and the performance will be a lot better than the mugens if thats what you're looking for...beware though...u'll have to live with a harsher ride and more noise from the shocks

I just bought them. I will let you know when I get them installed. $800 is a ridiculously low price for a new set - they retail for $1300 from King. You sure this is for real?
Yeah the deal is for real, they are brand new $800, thats why I was asking. I am looking to make my new purchase into a sleeper. I want it to look 100 percent stock with much added performance all around. a 1" drop should keep it looking stock I would think.
They go $1300 brand new from King Motorsports... I have them on my car and I love them... best suspension I've bought... but as someone already mentioned you can get better handling from a few other setups, but your ride gets really harsh...
The Mugen suspension will keep a similar ride to stock, but with a lot better performance...
If your making a sleeper, I would definatly buy em...
Very good suspension, friend of mine had them (sold to shik0me) and they are a great ride. Although I believe the drop is more than 1'' even though they say it's only 1''.....probably more like 1.2-1.3

Like I said, looking for better handling and the fact that they save ride quality goes a long way in my book. They seem to be of high quality too which is another factor. I have seen and ridden in coilovers. From experience, they arent all that its cracked up to be. At least not for my application. Im not looking for a lowered "slammed" look, but to keep my car stock looking. Plus I live in NE where the roads suck, many bumps and potholes.

I had the same thing in mind when I was looking at suspension setups. The Mugen Showa looks to fit that description perfectly. I was also able to talk to a few owners and they said that you can drive it *almost* like it is at stock height. I have a front lip, so I'll need to be even more careful.

Yeah, the Showa's a great choice for up here. If I'd have found a deal like that when I was shopping for a suspension I'd have lept on it. I'm on H&R Sports right now, which are probably on the edge of feasibility. Although I've found that I scrape less now than I did with the stock suspension - springs don't compress as much.
But we'll see what happens this winter. A couple inches of snow this morning. ugh.

I wasn't telling you to slam your car TEINS are adjs.
Yeah, I know that, I am aware of adjustability, but doesnt the car need to be put on a balancer to properly tune them in??? The ride regarless is still gonna be much stiffer too isnt it???
Correct reason why i dont get coils its because its not a matter of just put it on lower and bump it kinda thing theres more to it.. balancing , correcting cambers , aligning and yes the ride is alot stiffer.
I'd stick with the good old Shocks and Springs mod.
I wouldn't really fear coilovers unless you're really slammed. I'm low but not to the point where I need a camber kit. Also, I love having the adjustability of the coilovers, I've got my Tiens setup pretty well for the street. When I drove Modern Angel's lude w/Showas, it was a harsher ride than my Tiens (most likely because of how soft I have them for the street). But it takes a matter of seconds to adjust stiffness if I needed to, such as during an auto-x or track.
The Showas are great but I'm the type that needs control
$800 is a steal, jump on it, and if you don't like it, sell it for $800 and someone will take them off your hands
