mis matching atts.. help!

1997 prelude.

okay, so i bought this car thats been sitting for about 3 years.. the guy stopped working on it mid conversion so i thought i'd fix it.

came to putting the atts in and honestly.. it looks as though it's not going to fit between the exhaust and the oil filter?!

checked the old parts and the old half shaft bolts right onto the block..

the car used to be a tiptronic, it's got all the plugs for the atts unit and even the light in the dash..

simply put.. i for some reason i dont think the atts is made to fit??

and ideas or advice would be great.

just done a little reading and looks like the block is a base model block.. really confusing with it having the atts light, controll module and atts plug in the loom..

seeing as i cant just put the half shaft onto the m2u4 sh gearbox, will a standard h22a 5speed fit? and will there be any problems regarding the atts computer and light etc...?

Bingo.

If the car was an automatic, then it's a base model. The ATTS unit will only mount to the transmission of an SH model, which will only mount to the engine block from an SH. Even if you have the correct engine and transmission to work with the ATTS unit, you still need several sensors, a different ECU and some different suspension components for it to actually work.

Long story short, ATTS doesn't work in a base model, and won't even mount to a base transmission.

With the exception of the SH transmission, all other H and F series transmissions are interchangeable. The ATTS won't work with any of them though, but putting working ATTS in a base model would be WAY more work than it's worth anyway.

Sounds like you found why the last owner may have abandoned the project. You have mismatched parts that cannot work together.

okay cheer's, the car WAS auto, now i've bolted the sh 5 speed gearbox onto the block but the atts looks as though it will never or has never fit, is just so confusing why the controll module for it etc... is all there?

seems as though the guy realised he bought the wrong transmision for it and bailed out?

That would be my guess.

If you want to fix it, just remove all the ATTS stuff (it won't be functional anyway) and buy any H or F series transmission besides the one you have now. There are probably a dozen or so different transmissions you can choose from.

lol

The SH transmission is getting harder to find, so you should be able to sell it.

If it's in your budget, I'd recommend looking into the transmissions with a factory LSD. Here's a thread that outlines all of your options: Prelude Tranny Codes & Gear Ratios Any of the transmissions listed there that don't include ATTS will bolt up to your base block, but be warned some of them are stupid expensive.

m2t4 - 97-01 sir from h22a
m2b4 - 92-96 si from h22a

i know of a cheap m2b4, is it worth any more hunting round for the m2t4 off the newer model?

Probably not, if you're just going to do mild street driving or just want to get it on the road.

Good luck with the project man, make sure you have all of the ECU stuff in order, maybe consider doing your engine mods now, and also upgrading to a better engine management.
