Manual transmission trouble in my '99 base

01.12.02: E-mailed the local Honda dealership (First Texas Honda). I said something along the lines of not being able to do the N-1 unless completely stopped, 4-5 grind, and reverse doesn't engage all the time.

01.14.02: Set up appointment with a service rep to bring the car in. Said there was going to be an $80 diagnosis fee no matter what, warranty work or not.

I dropped off the Prelude at night and filled out a form and put my keys in the night drop box.

01.15.02: Service guy calls me and says that my transmissions shot and replacing it will cost around $3,000 + $550 for labor. He said that it should be covered under warranty. Tells me he can't do anything since my name isn't on the title (it's under my uncle's name). Gives me a number to call Honda's contracting department.

I give them a call and apparently I need to get my uncle to add me onto the warranty contract so it authorizes me to do any warranty work on the car.

Left a message with my uncle telling him what needs to be done. I don't know how long he's going to take to get it done . . .

Sounds like BS. My car is under my dad's name. THe warranty is under him. I have no ownership or anything with the car but they still took my car, fixed it for free, and did not charge me for a 80 inspection fee.

the $80 is BS!

get a refund on that.. they only charge you $80 if the problem isn't cover under warranty. For example..if you have a problem with your tranny, and they found out it was caused by a upgraded flyhwheel or clutch.

But if your car is stock..or you dont have any transimission mods, then they shoudn't charge you $80.

Ask for a refund..if they dont.. then complain to a Honda rep.

1. that $80 is BS
2. never heard of that warranty contract before either, i bought my dad's cars into several honda dealers for warranty work, maybe there is such a thing and that particular dealer is uptight about it.
3. the only time you shift from n->1 is when you are stop fully or very very close to a complete stop, maybe you shift to 1st too early? well you should get it check for your other problems anyway, for FREE.

that sounds like a load of shiet! My warranty is under my father's name, and I had to take mine up to get a new stereo cuz my stock one wouldnt play cd's. The guy took my car and my keys and i left it for about 3 hours. He called my cell and told me that they ordered the stereo and told me when it would be in, and that it was cool to come pick up my car. No questions or anything.

01.17.02: My uncle said he wasn't sure which option to get, so he had me call back and set up a 3-way conference call. Apparently, after talking to another guy in claims, I can't service the car because I'm not on the title for the car. However, what I can do is have them ship the invoice to my uncle and have him sign it, then fax it back to the dealership.

So I call the dealership and tell him what I just got told from Honda's contracting department.

He confirms and then says he needs to go call Honda contracting again to backup my statement.

He then calls me back and says, "Yeah, we can do it but we need to disassemble the transmission first to make sure that it's covered by the warranty and that's going to cost $370."

What? I then tell him what happens if the warranty service people decide that it's not covered by the warranty? "Well, you have to then pay for the $80 diagnostic fee, the $370 transmission disassembly fee, and then the transmission reassembly fee."

Fvck you Honda.

Where the hell can I find the Honda customer represenative contact for Austin / this region?
