Manual Transmission oil recommendation (?)

What is the current thinking (brand-wise) on changing the tranny oil on a 5-speed with high miles now (142K)?

Should I go with Honda transmission oil, or GM, or some "performance brand" alternative?

I did search and read through some older threads but I'm not sure what the best oil would be for my transmission.

Also, can someone tell me how much oil I need to buy to drain and refill?

Thanks,
-S

Look here

To fill i only needed 2 quarts but i bought 3 quarts just in case. and fyi Pennzoil synchromesh and gm synchromesh are the same thing but cheaper. i bought the pennzoil for $6.49 a quart at autozone, that was the only place that had it. i checked advance auto parts and o'reillys.

Just Scroll down a little you will see the pictures

Thanks Ike for the leak! - Preludepower.com

did the transmission grind before you put in the syncromesh? if not, i'd swap it out for the new honda mtf. some of us think the syncromesh is just too slick and might cause wear where there wasn't any... and you can't even tell haha.

ok, I have no problem getting Honda MTF...but was wondering if there were any known good (or better) alternatives. Honda doesn't run their own refinery so all they are doing is relabeling "something" that's out on the market (and tripling the price).

But, if the best/safest thing to do is get Honda MTF I will do that...
