lowering problems

Ok, so i have a 98 sh. I used a coilover kit and the car sits about 5 1/2 inches to maybe 6 off from the bottom of the front lip to the ground. I recently fell a bit of vibration, so I decided to change the front left axle mainly bc the front right was done about 2 months ago before the car was dropped. I know i need an alignment with the toe adjusted majorly. When I took the old axle out, the CV boot wasnt torn and it didnt appear to be damaged, although stretched a few millimeters down the shaft. I put the new axle in, and the next day around a turn at a slow speed it start vibrating bad and making crazy knocking noises. I drove about 45 mins home like that and it just got worse. Got home, took off the wheel, and the axle grease is all over the bottom end where the crankshaft is, and the other side of the axle where the wheel well is.. Question is, did I lower this too much, or was it just a faulty axle. Im now spending the day putting the old axle back in and planning on just taking it for an alignment. But question is does that sound like its too low. Its also on stock SH wheels and tires.

Sounds like crappy axles to me. A new or even remanufactured axle shouldn't be slinging any greasy out. Don't bother putting the old one back in. Go to a auto parts store and pick up another one with a warranty.

Spin--His boot tore, and I think he's asking whether his car is too low for the axles boots to handle. Personally, I don't think his boots were weak, but he may be sitting at a bad angle somehow...Did you give the correct advise?

Yes I did. His first axle even though the boot did not tear was causing vibration which could be a sign of a failing cv joint. He replaced it and there was even more vibration and clunking which most likely came from replacing the axle with another one because it wasn't doing it previously.

I just didn't answer whether is was too low or not. I'll do that now. No I do not believe it's too low. Although being lowered does put extra stress on the axles, but you should not have these weird problems.

Oh thanks spin, Personally, I was just curious myself, as I didn't knwo bad CV joits can cause bad vibrations like that.

Does honda still sell the factory OEM axels, or are they aftermarket only?

thanks for the advice guys.. I had my honda technician friend check out my old axle, and he said the clamp on part of the boot was loose, but it was still fine. So he took it in to regrease it and reclamp it, so im getting it back today and putting it in. Just fyi, the axle that broke right away was A1 Cardone, heard they werent bad but i think otherwise, watch out for them.. Thanks again guys!
