Lowering a 2001 prelude

Hello all and thank you for your time.

Looking for a few suggestions. I have a 2001 base prelude. I just bought and installed 18 enkei wheels with toyo 215/40/18 tires.

It looks great but im looking to also lower it a little bit to make it a little more stable and also to hopefully set it off a little bit.

And suggestions on brands of springs or coilovers?

Also my main question is looking for suggestions of how far to lower my car, front and rear. What is a safe amount to where scrubbing might not be as bad. I know that you can't totally avoid scrubbing, but I think i should be able to find a few guys on here that have the same setup.

Thanks for the feedback and God Bless.

Hey, I have 235/45 tires, do you think you can post a picture of yours? I'd like to see how the 40% sidewall height looks.

I have Tein lowering springs, and it is lower in the front more so than the back for me. the back is just even with the wheelwell, while in the front, the tire goes just a tad into the well, that being said, it is very low, and very bumpy.
Even the smallest of dips you must be very careful driving over with my car.

I would suggest you maybe find a friend with a lowered vehicle, and definately get the feel for it before lowering your car.

In my opinion your car in its stock configuration for street use is as low as practically possible and quite low compared to most stock cars on the market. If you look under the engine compartment you will see at its lowest point is only about 4 1/2 " above the ground. When you change your springs , you detune the front suspension because your double wishbone suspension is designed to change its alignment characteristics as spring compression occurs resulting in possible unpredictable braking, handling performance and possible improper tire wear issues. You may also experience impacts with the road that can bend suspension components and in some states altering your suspension is illegal .

These problems come up all the time on sites like this as shown below.
I mean who needs all that automotive drama in their life.

An example of what can happen if you lower your car to much which could result in a unfortunate Bondo enhancement.

HOLY CRAP!! Detuned suspension, unpredictable braking, improper tire wear and pound me in the @ss prison time. Well gee willikers i better go remove all that bad stuff from my car before i get in trouble from my mommy. Seriousley for keeping stock shocks and just changing springs eibach sports as for coilovers koni yellows with ground control is where its at or you can stay on the porch with that ^^guy and let him tell you how changing rim sizes is only appropriate in the bedroom.

After driving lowered cars for a long time, well pretty much since 1983 (current SH not lowered yet), I have never had damage like the above pics. On my 99' Prelude I did hit the tow hook every now and then. On a side note my brothers 07' civic looks like the red SH above but he never slows down entering driveways, etc.
If your dropping a prelude up to 2" and you are aware of how and where you are driving I doubt you will have much if any problems.
