Loud Knocking/Stuttering on left front wheel.

97 auto/base

The whole thing started when I was turning in a dirt parking lot too fast and it felt like i hit a rock with my left front wheel. it's been vibrating ever since, and lately has a huge knock whenever i take sharper right turns, as is someone is jabbing sticks into my wheels. Also, when it shifts from 1st to 2nd or back at low speeds, it engages in a hard manner.

I just replaced the half shaft on that side hoping that was the problem, to no avail. also, when its up on a jack and i try to move the wheel with my hands its only slightly loose but i cant even tell if its from the steering arm or not.

so my next guesses are:

wheel bearing?

steering arm/system?

tranny? (just for that side if my model has LSD or not?)

thnx in advance for any help

huh? there is only one transmission and unless you put an LSD in your car it does not have one. I've never seen one in an SS anyways.

My first guess is the half-shaft but since you already replaced that check your radius rod bushings.

Usually when wheel bearings go you get a sound that gets faster as you drive faster.

what's a radius rod? steering linkage?

and how would i check it? thnx

edit: found out what a radius rod was. thank heavens for teh internets.

now, what am i looking for besides the regular wear and tear? also, is there like a shake test i can put it thru and see if i can make it wobble or something? and would a radius arm be causing such violent tremors when i am turning? thnx again
