You need to bring to the dealer your red key as it holds the information needed in your imobilizer system. My stupid dealer thought they could do it with the black key, even tho i repeatedly told them then needed the red key for it. There is also a metal plate/tag with numbers that represent the shape of your key, you might need to bring that too, but they might be able to cut the shape of your car key.
Just two blacks. I'm always getting screwed.
One dealer wants 36.00 for a new key, one wants 75.00 (Frank Kent, Ft. Worth). What a rip!! They were the guys that refused to deal w the shock knock TSB also.
Two blacks, a grey, and a red? Psh... i got my car from a private seller and just gave me some crap ass key that had a chip TAPED onto the damn key. Bastards. Said that was the only key they had since they bought the car from an auction.
Anyways... i took that key to a small lil locksmith shop by my place and he re-made the key for me and he had a "burner" for the key. Made me 3 keys and they all work great! No problems.. had the car for just under a year now.
Just had a duplicate made for my 98 lude and the parts guy at the Honda dealer said that NOW they only need the black key and the VIN, they can look up the number that is on the little metal plate that tells their computer key maker what to program the chip in the key. I took the red key along but he didn't need it.
But, jeez it took about 4 keys to get the teeth right so it would even turn in the ignition tumbler!!
Yes, and 35 bucks for the one that worked. ( he did give my one of the spares for a door only key)
In Chesapeake, VA

speaking of keys...I bought my engine from a wrecked prelude
with only one immobilizer key. I went to the honda dealership
to try and get a spare made, but they service/parts guy said that
I will need paperwork giving the engine VIN from the yard that I bought the engine from. I brushed it off and went home..that was about a year ago.. and last weekend, I decided to stop by the salvage yard to get the paperwork done but all that stood where the yard used to be is a barren, bulldozed peice of land. Now, I'm stuck with no paperwork for my engine and one key.
is there any other way to have another immobilizer key made?
how about disarming the entire immobiizer system??
