Looking at doing Side Mount Exaust.

So im looking into having a shop do a custom side mount exaust. But i dont really know how its gonna look cause my 5th gen is lowered just a bit. so if you guys have any input as far as ideas and whatnot lets me know. Do you think i should cut into the side skirt and mount it parallel to the side skirt? Or have it run parallel to the side skirt without cuttiong into it? Or maybe on the inside of the side skirt? I kinda want it to be seen, cause nobody out here really has a side mount, so i want it noticed. But any idea on a small muffler i can get, cause i have a pretty big one right now and its not necessary cause it sounds the same without it. cause my lude's got a silencer, so its not crazy loud. so let me know what you guys think.
Thanks

I had thought about doing this; by just punching holes in the sides of the bumper; directly behind the rear wheels; but decided against it for 2 reasons:
1) Heat in bad places (didn't want to melt the plastic)
2) It would cause a slant up in the pipe, causing it to collect water.

Where are you planning on having the outlet? behind the front tires? infront of the rear tires? behind the rear tires? Also, are you planning on doing 2 outlets? (1 on each side)

TBH, I think it would look best with your skirts, if you could trim about 4" off of the back, infront of the rear wheels; and have a rectangle output on each side, tight to the body... but it would be speed-bump prone, as there isn't a channel that runs there; and would end up looking like a soup sandwich.

V/r,
Mike

I honestly think it's a pointless mod and will incease the weight of your car.

Your door area WILL heat up considerably and make it more uncomfortable inside the cabin. Have you ever driven/sat in a viper??? Yeah it's not that fun (which is why they went to conventional rear pipes). I guess if you want the look...

There's a reason why you don't see side mounts on a prelude. Preludes do not have to space under the car for mufflers beside where the stock location is. For instance muscle cars have space space for the mufflers to be tucked away and just piping is routed to the sides of the car or to the rear. Where are you going to mount the muffer(s)? From what I picture any type of muffler and piping will be extremely close to the floor. You'll probably wind up denting them or ripping the system complelely off. If you look at the stock side skirt theres nothing really to cut into. Stick your head under your car you'll see it's pretty flush with the buttom of the car. I guess you could just run pipes and no muffler but it would sound like crap and you'll lose performance.

well if i am gonna do it, i only want a single outlet, and on the driver side. But i was thinking right before the rear tire, running a small muffler cut into the side skirt and have it adjacent to the side skirt right before the rear tire. Or kinda of mold a heat shield to the side skirt and run it below that or next to it, i talked to the team captain and he said that i will lose a lot of HP. But for some reason i dont think ill lose that much?! I kinda want to have it past the door so that i dont have to smell it, but not to close to the tire that it will just melt it while idleing. So i think it would look clean but maybe i think ill have to cut into the side skirt and get a smaller muffler so that it doesnt scrap.

Losing backpressure doesn't = power loss

Back pressure is the enemy, but you also need velocity. Think about how a rifle barrel works, or simply a straw and a spit wad. Now try to shoot that same size spit wad out of a paper towel roll.

It's not nice but the dude isn't here to get his feelings hurt so it's fair game

A good quote from urbandictionary.

2. rice

Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. (R.I.C.E.)Parts put on cars to make them look fast, when they have no internal tuning, and are actually slow as hell. Parts usually consist of excessively angular bodykits, large rear spoilers, neon, sponsor stickers, chrome rims, fake "coffee can" exhaust tips, and loud, annoying paint jobs and/or vinyls. Sometimes parts are do-it-yourself installed and are basically duct taped to the car. Most commonly known for being done to Honda Civics, but can also be done to slow domestic vehicles, such as a Chevy Cavalier, etc.
"Yo dog, did you see the Civic that guy was rollin' in? it was so rice."

"This guy's got nothin' under the hood, it's just rice. Smoke him."

"What a riceboy, I bet he thinks his neon adds 50 bhp!"
