longevity of good things from pulleys

Hey I've trying to do some research on different pulleys and such for my ride and have had mixed results. I was talking the other day with one of my friends who is a starting mechanic(Lincoln Tech.) and he told me because they spin faster than the factory pulleys, it could later on cause problems with the computer not recoginzing that and trying to compensate for it. However... I've seen a few preludes with the AEM pulley kit and have'nt seen a negative review. Also one of my friends drives a mid 90's chevy truck and has a pulley kit on it. He told me it has been trouble free for almost 4 yrs. I know those trucks are no where near as complicated and as sensitive as the preludes are, but still makes me wander. I can easily imagine If I replaced only one pully...as seen much on ebay... I could have problems because the alternator pulley would remain factory. The AEM kit has both and new belts. SO... if anyone has or knows anyone with longterm results, I would appreciate some info. Thanks

You have it backwards. AEM pulleys are underdrive pulleys which are larger, thus they will turn slower than the stock pulleys at any given engine speed. Because of this, your alternator will produce less current and your power steering pump won't be as effective. Also, the computer does not have any influence on anything related to pulley speed.

Underdrive pulleys + Your car audio setup would likely lead to running down your battery constantly. The potential hp gain from underdrive pulleys is very small anyways. Maybe a few(~1-2) actual whp.

if you get pulleys that have the same OD as the stock pulley but weigh less, you can experience the benefits without the downsides. unorthodox use to make a pulley set but i am not sure if it is still available. either way, if you are goin to go with pulleys then make sure you are comparing the OUTER DIAMETER (OD) of that pulley to the stock. Pulleys should really only be switched when you are going extreme naturally aspirated, as then the minute gains they provide are important. If your build is not this type then i would not worry about getting them.
