guys, im a new 2000 prelude owner. it was a gift from my brother. the car is in perfect condition, its an SS Auto.
yesterday i ran into a problem, i was in 3rd gear, 6k rpm, 80-mph, and my revolutions wouldn't go any higher they kept dropping slightly back and forth....
i know some cars have the speed governor, is this kicking in or i might have another problem? if this is the case, how do i get rid of the governor?
thanks in advance

Reason: typo
damn that sucks........i was kinda hoping it would be the speed governor, since 3rd gear pulls strong, but it just kicks me off wen i get to 6k rpm...so theres no solution????? it needs a new transmission???

i mean you could try to do a fluid change, never use the SS feature and not push it. might last a little bit. but yea, new transmission, and hopefully manual.

If you don't know what you want, you end up with a lot you don't.
I brought my automatic back from not working at all by putting royal purple ATF and tranny honey in then did it again a month later. Now I drive like a grandma untill I have enough money for the swap.
There is a few write ups around im sure they will tell you but a tranny from salvage yard is normally around 200. Accord 5-speed will work but the gear is a lil different so you would get better gas mileage but lil slower on accelerating. But since auto is only 4-speed it still might be better then what you have.
man i feel all disappointed, but what else can i do? im gonna save some cash for that swap. plus taxes are coming soon =] now,as far as the new manual tranny goes, which one will be more appropriate for this one? will the transmission from a fourth gen fit right in?

you should gift the car back to your brother. Did he know the tranny was failing?

Don't flush Honda trannys! supposedly it's bad for them just drain what you can out of the drain plug(about a gallon) and add a gallon, repeat process a month later.
Well i dont think giving it back to your brother is a sensible splution, if you got it from him for free. Replacing the transmission wont cost you more than a grand from a shop, a whole lot less if you diy. thats a decent price for a prelude
Bugger! But dude you got a free lude that's awesome man you are lucky! . So anyway get it swapped. And theres a couple of writeups with what trans you could put in. Make sure first though which I suggest is to get a compression test done and to really get a service done on the car. Remember 5w-30 is the best really for the engine oil. I highly suggest again to do a compression test or a leakdown test before doing anything to the car because you might have another ticking time bomb (your engine)

No it is ~2.5-3 qts.
