the cop stated it was illegal to have "blue lights in the front", but they are hyper WHITES. and besides, aren't the HID kits BLUE? how could that be illegal?
Supposedly, HIDs/hyper-whites are only legal in cars that come out of the factory with them. Cops I think know which cars are and aren't supposed to have HIDs, etc so if they want to be an ass..you're just screwed...As far as having super-white bulbs elsewhere...every single light on my car with the exception of my brakelights/tailights are super-white (front/rear turn signals, reverse lights, sidemarkers, self-installed blinkers/sidemarkers) and I passed inspection just fine in NJ surprisingly. Believe me, they're *****es about everything in jersey.. Only thing that didn't go was the tint
I suggest you change the lights back to stock, take a few pictures, and show it on your court date. Same thing happened to me (no license plate, "blue" headlights) and they just told me to go home. I didn't pay any fine/court fee.
Originally posted by white-chocolate i got a $44 ticket for having hyperwhites in my side markers and in my front blinkers. i could have sworn they were legal.....?
I think your turn signal must be amber regardless what state you live but I dunno about the side markers though.
in Missouri/kansas ... they MUST be amber or white in the front and red or white in the back. the white is to accomidate for cars that got in wrecks and have part of their covers off so the bulbs show... nice little law
I got a ticket for having white lights in my corners on my altezzas. That cop must have been bored as hell. This was on opening night of Fast and Furious and the street I traveled on has mad street racers and he comes to bust me for white lights. Oh well. What happened was I changed them to red in the back and took pics, at court date the DA asked me if I changed them i showed them pics and he said i was free to go. So I lost 2 hours of my life sitting in there. As for your side markers in the front, in my state of TX they have to be amber. I have clears still with the hiper white bulbs in it. I need to get amber bulbs later since I dont want any trouble. As for the lights in my front turn signals, my state law says the color must be in between white and amber. So I can have hiper white signals. Check with your state laws first. Your ticket is one of those fix it things, but its a pain in the ass to go to court
Okay just to clear this up in North America - again for all you geographically declined that's US and Canada (well techincally Mexico but Prelude's aren't sold there)
The lamps installed MUST be DOT approved. Techincally they cannot be modified in anyway (ie sleeves for example). This is usually ignored and most people don't care about that. Also, it's the light illuminating from the fixture that must be the certain color. Whether it's the lens or the bulb, it does not matter (of course they still must adhere to the above)
Front turns must be white or amber
Side markers must be amber
Reverse lights must be white
Brake lights must be red
Rear turns must be red or amber
You can have HIDs in your car, but again, they must be DOT approved.
Now there may be rules state to state, but those are written by the US government and adopted by Canada which apply to the manufacturers.

FYI Legality of Clear Turn Signals
Just wanted to clear up some things about turn signals. According to the OHIO Revised Code:
4501-15-10 Directional signals.
(A) Directional signals shall be constructed and installed so as to provide adequate and reliable illumination and shall conform to the S.A.E. "Standards for Turn Signal Lamps."
(B) Any vehicle may be equipped and when required under section 4511.39 of the Revised Code shall be equipped with electric turn signals which shall indicate an intention to turn by flashing lights showing to the front and rear of a vehicle or on a combination of vehicles, on the side of the vehicle or combination toward which the turn is to be made. The lamps shall be mounted on the same level and as widely spaced laterally as practicable and, when signalling, shall emit white or amber light to the front and red or amber to the rear. Turn signal lamps shall be visible at a distance of not less than three hundred feet in normal sunlight. Turn signal lamps may, but need not be, incorporated in other lamps on the vehicle.
for those of you in TX thats interesting b/c I got pulled over by a cop here in the city of Bellaire (super anal houston cops for those of you that don't know), by mistake apparently, and he said all my lights were legal...this included hyperwhite turn signals, hyperwhite sidemarkers, PIAA superwhite headlight bulbs

It all depends on where you live. What works in one state won't work in another.
Regardless of state, didn't someone post earlier the DOT standard for front turn signals? The only requirement is that it must be white or amber. I'm guessing hyper white is white, not blue.
If this is for the front turn signals, I dont see it as a problem, but if this is for the rear, then you're screwed. The only requirement for amber is the rear turn signals..
