just bought a 97 base

I just got a mint condition 97 lude black on black and i am in the process of doing some things to it. I used to have a wrx and already i love this thing soooo much better. all the car has is black housing headlights and an intake. My friend that is turboing his ls swap ek told me to get a hondata ecu.... I am new to the whole honda scene and i was wondering what i should do for this car? thanks

yeah a hondata is a good idea, and if your planning on turboing it dont expect to be pushing more then 9lbs of boost, any more then that and you will need to replace the pistons and resleeve the block

depending on how many miles and how well maintained the motor is, i wouldnt push more then 7 psi on stock internals.

But first you should work on getting a good exhaust. But it all depends on your plans and power goals for the car.

yeah i was saying 9lbs at the max

i agree a good exhaust is key, i like hks dragger and my megan racing catback with testpipe, you also might consider a 4-2-1 header

Unfortunately, unless you plan on some kind of f/i setup, mods aren't going to do much. I suggest keeping the Prelude close to stock and spending the money on the WRX. It'll take quite a bit for your Prelude to hang w/ even a lightly modded WRX.

5 speed or SS?

Its a 5 speed with a stage 2 clutch put in recently and i can tell. i dont have the wrx anymore. yea i need to find an exhaust and headers for sure. I just dont want an exhaust that sounds like rice and i know its possible cause my friend has a civic si and he has full exhaust and not just some stupid muffler and it sounds really good

you said you already have an intake so from there i'd go:

header: you can get a megan race header for about $150 and it's just as good as the more expensive DC's and what not.
from the header you should do a 2.5" collector mod for optimal air flow
followed by a hi flow cat: magnaflow is a good one which you can get for under $60 shipped
and end it all w/ a nice cat back exhaust system. i personally like a lower sound so i went w/ the Apexi WS2 cat back. which i'm selling now since i'll be doing a custom exhuast system. let me know if you are interested.

good luck w/ the build and keep us posted!

an intact stock h22 header is just as good if not better than the megan or dc header. if your looking for an actual hp gain then go custom like hytech or smsp header. but if your boostin it then why get a header when your gonna need a new manifold anyway?

well there are so many options... especially if you wanna stay N/A *evil grin*

but first and foremost...decide what your budget is going to be. you really do get what you pay for when it comes to preludes... unlike my sti... bolt ons arent going to add 50-100whp. but Hondata or Neptune plus an ecu is ideal for any engine mods you plan to make.
