jdm swap questions

I read the faq section and didn't find this anywhere so....
I was thinking of getting a jdm h22a 97+ and putting it into a 99 prelude. I saw in the faq section going from an obd1 h22a to the fifth gen, which I would assume the obd2 is a different set up???? If I use a jdm ecu, do I need to swap the oil pump cover etc? Also, why are the jdm engines different from the us as far as the crank position sensor location? seems like it would have been easier to make them all the same... I purchased the type s swap and they cant find me the right ecu so its going back (ecu that they sent to me was faulty, no 5V reference going to atts ecu). going to get a h22a obd2 and put high compression pistions and some nice cams etc. into it and run a p72 ecu w/ hondata...any thoughts? or headsups? (I have a type SH...not keeping the atts and just going for a standard trans possibly a LSD). Also, if your interested in the complete atts system (yaw sensor, steering pos. sensor, harness, computer and controller let me know).. I could use a little direction...tired of serching the internet for answeres.

Few comments:

First if you're going to use a Hondata - P72 then do it during the swap, seems kind of ridiculous to do all this sourcing of an ecu to just switch it out eventually anyhow. If money is a concern check into products that Xenocron offer...chipped ECU's that can be tuned with software such as Neptune, Chrome, and Uberdata...

Also if you are not keeping ATTS then either the JDM tranny (M2B4 I think) will work or a KaaZ, Quaife, or other LSD will work if you want to have LSD. I believe most of the vets here say the Quaife is the way to go but be prepared for a lot more than just a straight swap on that...I'll let you search that one up...

I have the H22A SiR spec motor running on the USDM ECU, but not sure how it's setup as it was professionally installed before I bought the car.

Sorry I don't have more information for you, and good luck with the swap...

any jdm h22 you get your going to have to swap your OBDII parts if your state requires an ECU check during emissions (most states do) In japan there is no OBD standards at least years ago so the jdm esu cannot be read. On JDM H22's the CKP and TDC sensors are in the distributor like US OBDI honda engines. When OBII came around in the US honda had to comply, thus the CKP and TDC sensors were moved to the crank to get more accurate readings. So i order to use the USDM ECU you will need to swap from the USDM H22A4:

Distributor
ECU
Wiring harness
Vtec pressure switch
crank timing pulley
CKp and TDC sensors
Lower timing cover
Oil pump

Thanks for the info guys, fortunetly, in my area we do not have any emissions check... That being said, would it be fairly easy to use a hondata or equal system and just use the standard setup on a jdm motor? Not swapping the oil pump etc?

too much work...its easiest to just swap or even buy the parts n e way, just to be on the safe side for maintenance..

new oil pump.
water pump.
timing belt
and convert from auto tensioner to manual.

I'm not sure, Id guess that it would, there isn't a reason why it wouldn't. You would have to get a tune and right away. The type s has high compression and you need to have a ECU that will run it properly.

no u dont. i now for a fact.

tunninng will be needed to maximize what you have in this situation...

but i put out 195 with all type s internals on a jdm regular black top...

no tunning...car ran like a beast..
