Well i was lookin at some ebay auction for the JDM climate control, and supposedly they're including the wiring harness.. Well they make it seem so easy but i still think it wont wire correctly with everything. here's wut i figure..
The JDM climate control is all digital, including teh temperature part, taht's the biggest problem.
When i was takin apart my USDM climate control, i had to disconnect two harnesses, and also had to take apart this one metal CABLE which attaches to the sliding lever that adjusts the temperature. I believe that's like a solenoid controller or somethin, but see that's the thing. The US version has that sliding lever, and it's like manually changed. The JDM is digital, and has no sliding lever... so that'd be ONE part that would have to be re-wired. As for all the other wires, i have NO IDEA if those will be a direct-connect thing.. Anybody else have any confirmations/comments/theories on this???
The climate sensors would be another problem. I don't know how many of them there are, but one of them is actually built in the dash...I believe it can be seen in one of andrewdelvards pix of his type S. It is to the left of his steering wheel.
..oh man. I've been wanting to do this conversion since forever! I think our climate control is pretty cheap-looking. but yeah, if any of you ever figure this out then it must be shared! hehe oh and someone sell me their 3-spoke steering wheel too
It would be just as easy as getting a 1st gen CL digital climate control and hooking it up, but that might actually be easier. At least it'd be in fahrenheit not celsius. I'm sure there are more complications but check out the pic. Looks as if it would fit, no?
They are not exactly the same but if it fits in the Prelude the wiring would be way easier than the JDM since you could get a shop manual for the CL and have all the wiring diagram you'd need
yeah they are, stop fooling yourself....it big fat and nasty..
Yeah, I used to own a 2001 Celica before I got my 'lude and I really missed the Celica's nice 3-spoke wheel when I switched cars.. ugh.. the lude wheel is like something from a station wagon.. it's thin and wide. Having a nice steering wheel can totally change your driving experience.. it sounds stupid but it's true!
