interior micron air filter

has anyone replaced the interor air filter that is part of the air conditioning unit (??). you know how 99's and up have that micron filter that filters out pollen and stuff before it gets into your cabin. it is tough to do or get at?

it's behind the glovebox, very easy to get to.

just replaced it the other day...piece of cake to do. You can buy the filter parts at H parts real cheap.
If it is a new car, this is what you do
- remove glove box
- unbolt metal strip
- cut away mid section of plastic strip behind the metal strip
- unclip the platic holders
- slide out the old air filters
- put new ones in
- assemble in reverse order.

Why would you replace them so fast if it's a new car?

after 30k miles (or in my case 60k), the filter (like any other filter) should be replaced since it has been filtering out the air entering into the cabin from dust, pollen, etc since day one... i haven't looked at my filter, but i bet it is pretty dirty.

to me, unless you have allergies or something, it's useless.

wouldn't it restrict the air flow while using the fan for the hvac if it was dirty/clogged up?

after 36K both of the A/C filters in mine were very *very* dirty.... but I am glad they were there otherwise that dirt would be on the interior of my car.

Am I right in saying that only later Preludes have that filter?

Will my 1997 Prelude have one?

So there's no way around that plastic piece? You gotta cut it?

I heard that completely removing that filter gives like 25 HP to the wheels : ) I'm kidding, but seriously, is this a filter that needs to be changed, I have a 2001, and after how many miles or so ??

I just had my 33,750 mile oil change done and the Honda service guy mentioned it to me and offered to do it for $90 (plus it would be like an hour wait extra). Of course I said hell no!

So I bought it from hparts.com. They recommend you changing them every 30K.

Any way to retrofit one of these into a 97? I have pretty bad allergies, it'd be nice to be able to do that........
