insurance rates? E36 M3 vs lude

I'm debating getting one of these two cars and I'm just curious if anyone knows wat the ballpark insurance rates are like on these two cars. THanks for the help.

My insurance went up $150 a month when getting my lude (previous car 240x)...

My boys insurance went down $50 a month when he got his 99 m3 (previous car 99 mustang)....

that would tell me the m3's are cheaper, but I'm not too sure....

The only way to tell for your situation is to call your insurance co and get a quote.

I would be willing to bet that the M3 will be considerably more to insure. The Prelude is relatively cheap to insure as far as sporty cars go...

I did a "whatif" on Progressive's page for changing my 97 Prelude to a 97 M3 coupe. It went up $450 for me

Anyway, the Prelude is one of the more expensive cars to insure, supposedly. There was a "cars with the top 10 insurance premiums" list released a few weeks ago which I saw on Edmunds. They had a note on bottom saying if the Prelude and Integra were still being made, they'd have been on the list.

it makes more sense if M3 has a higher rate.

it wouldnt make sense that M3 would have higher rates because the risk the insurance company sees on each vehicle is different

it makes the assumption that the older more mature population would be driving a M3

while

a honda prelude would be more driven by a younger adult or teenager

remember the insurance company takes into consideration the RISK, not the price range of fixing parts

The M3 has many more safety features also. Also, call state farm insurance. I'm 22 and have one ticket on my license and my insurance is $200/month for my 2001 silver prelude.

Maybe it was just that the cars I was looking at were all more expensive to insure than the Prelude...

I looked at:
2000 Integra TypeR
2000 Integra GS-R
2000 Civic Si (What was I thinking?)
2000 Mustang GT (Again, what was I thinking?)
2000 Celica GT-S
1996 Supra TT
1995 BMW M3

All but the Celica were more expensive to insure than the Prelude. The MOST expensive to insure was the ITR, believe it or not - closely followed by the Supra, Mustang and M3. These 3 were all more tan $900/yr more to insure than my Prelude was quoted at...
