Hello all. We are getting the Clutch Masters Stage 4, Fidanza Flywheel and Quaife LSD that you see here installed tomorrow. We just dropped off the Lude at David Hobbs Honda in Milwaukee (highly recommend). They are charging $500 for the install. We'll give you the full review when it's done
cool cant wait to hear how it goes that sounds really cheap
honda charged me 1300 to install my clutch/flywheel parts+ assembly, how much did you pay for the setup
HAHAHAHA TO ALL OF YOU. I am installing ym clutch right now. Actually as we speak my baby is outside on jacks with the tranny out. And let me tell you. THIS AINT FUN AT ALL!!!!. But honda wanted 1200.00 to do it. And they were just going to put in a stock clutch. I was over that so i got a Stage 3 clutch with about 2800lbs of holding power. It should work better with my NOS. But yeah. You are getting such a PHAT deal for 500$. I would almost be willing to pay that to have someone else do it. This is really not a fun job. But it is a good learning experience. Good Luck. Let me know what its like with the lighter fly wheel.

Sold the Lude - Dumb chick i sold it to crashed it - I bought it back - Fixed it - And got it for only 2500$ SCORE FOR ME!
It is a phat deal!! I'm crossing my fingers that it all works out. The only reason I'm having the parts installed is that it's still under warranty. I figure as long as I'm under the warranty I'll have them do stuff like this and if they screw it up, it's on them.
OOOOOOOO... Nice choices, hopefully in a couple of months I can get a LSD. It'll put me in Street Mod though, and the index time is ALOT less in SM.
I might have to check that out at one of these autocrosses. You plan on attending any soon? There is an event at State Fair on May 26th, and the 2 day event on June 1-2. I though you said you were going to the June event. I emailed them to see if you can just race one of the days.
... well, I should have crossed my fingers and my toes. Hobbs called and said it would be like $800 b/c they didn't realize they had the take the trans off. (on the Civic/CRX you don't??) Regardless, I told them that King Motorsports quoted me $500-$550. Sooo, I'm negotiating with them now. I've worked them down to $700, but I'm shooting for $600. What do you guys think? It's kinda crappy they went back on their price, but at the same time I'm STILL getting a good deal. Should I go for $650 and be done with it??
Adam, if you can negotiate to $600, that should be a fair price.
I think the best way to test the new toys is to head to Gateway to Nationals next week!

I would have King do it for that price, as long as they don't have to keep your car for like 3 weeks. I think your car usually hits the backburner when there race cars need something done. Ask Spocko.
well, I called the guy back and he was at lunch arggg.. either way, this is NOT happening today... and I was soo STOKED to drive it tonight
I'd be happy with $650, but I'm worried that they spring something else on me when the car is apart. Yah, you need parts X, Y and Z and that's $1XX.00.

Well, here's the thing. King says that I'll need 2 diff bearings and a speedo drive (+$150) So, Kings price is more like $650/$700 as well. Hobbs doesn't think that we need either of these parts to complete the install. Everyone I've talked to on this board has agreed with Hobbs. If Hobbs "springs" these costs on me, then it's $800-$850. I hate haggling over $hit like this.
Soo, here's the deal. The best Hobbs will do on price is $700, BUT they couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't cost more. The price could easily escalate to ???. I'm going to pick it up tonight (without the install ) and sleep on it. I guess the best option right now would be try and get the parts I need for as cheap as possible (bearings, speedo thing) and have King do it.
In speaking with the tech at Hobbs, it doesn't sound like he's done a prelude before. King has done several. Sound good to you guys?
I'm soo bummed
I should have known $500 was too good to be true
one more thing... although it didn't quite work out at Hobbs, they did handle the situation well. At least they didn't tear the car up and THEN tell me it'll be more money. As soon as they realized there was a problem they called. The guy I talked to at Hobbs was Bruce. I appreciate him being straight with me. So many shops would have gone the shady route.
When getting a quote, make sure you specify exactly what you know will need to get done. Do a search here. I gaurantee you can even tell them what tools they must have in the shop to do it right, that they will need the shims to set the preload etc. When you know more about the install it will make the quote more exact and they won't spring anything on you. When you shop, watch out for bait and switching, some quote less knowing that they will need to order Honda parts and bearing etc, or special order snapon tools for bearing drivers etc. Know how to do the install even if you don't end up getting your hands dirty.
Don't want to blow the trans! I certainly tried to do my "due diligence", but it's hard when you get conflicting stories. I'm still thinking King is the way to go based on their experience alone.
I paid 500 for just a diff install with the tranny already off the car.
Usually just r&r on the tranny is 300-400.
Then it blew up and I paid a whole lot more .

Ouch! I think what I need to do is just make more money so that I can buy a Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and never worry about aftermarket parts yadda, yadda, yadda.
