If I change the ignition switch do I need to change keys?

My dad mentioned I'd have to change keys if I change the ignition switch myself. I also talked to a Honda tech and he mentioned something briefly, but I didn't catch it. Do you guys know? I think I would just change the "electric switch" that's in the Helm's.

thanks!

There was a recall on some part of the ignition system. Make sure what you are about to fix isn't what was recalled and Honda could fix it for free. Sorry for the vagueness, I don't remember what was covered under the service bulletin, but it came out a long time ago.

It is exactly what u are trying to replace. Its an electric module in the ignition system.. Thing is you might be in my boat. Recall is done, but it is acting up again.. It only does it really in the summer.. It has to be REALLY hot out.. Before it wouldnt even start the car once and the green light was flashing. Turn the key, hear the fuel pump, but no starting. Car didnt even turn over. I thought it might be the main relay... Hmmm..

The ignition switch can be changed out without getting new keys. You aren't swapping the key cylinder, just the small plastic piece that has the electrical contacts.

Ok nice, I'm going to order the part then. I thought so ...

I did get the recall done in 04, but I think mine is dying. The car stalls randomly.
