idling problem

okay well.. when i first start the car usually.. the rpm drops down... but comes back up. It feels weird like ur going to stall but it goes away and i let the car warm up.

then when im driving... sometimes not all the time... i press the clutch down to come to a stop... and the rpms just drop again.. do i have a problem with my valves or is this normal.

Ive never misshifted, but i have bounced the tach twice. plz leave ur info's!!!

thx

Sounds like the valves to me. Hopefully they just need to be adjusted, but it that doesn't fix it and the compression is low in any of the cylinders it's probably a burnt or bent valve (exhaust probably). Hope this helps.

if ur gonna do the auto tensioner..do the timing belt too that way u save on labor.

could it be a vacuum leak maybe? that can cause the idle to fluctuate.

Try cleaning the throttle body first.

whoa don't leap into something drastic like $700....Can you give me a little background on your problem like what year is your car, how many miles, what does the rpm drop to and is it only when you are decelerating or in neutral, have you changed any of your ignition parts out (plugs, cap, rotor, wires), and if you have any other mods than what is on your sig? Also has the check engine light ever come on? If you have access to a code scanner plug it in and see what codes you're pulling and if you can check your compression and tell me what your pulling in all of your cylinders - it should be about 180. I know a little about this stuff because I had to fix something that sounds like this on my car. Hopefully your problem won't be too serious, but it might be. As for it being a vacuum leak - unless the idle is surging up over 1000 rpms this is probably not your problem. This might be long, but I know what I'm talking about - pm me and I can try to walk you through it if you want.
