i went to Japon and i brought a Prelude but... :(

Hello, everyone.
1) I am from the dominican Republic and English is my second language.

2) My father brought from japon a 5th gen Honda prelude "BB8 - '96 - '00 Prelude SiR (4WS) = 2.2l DOHC VTEC = H22A"..., know we have the car here in DR(Dominican Republic) but we need to chance the steering wheel from the right to left... OK if the Prelude was not a 4ws, it can be change in less than 10 days
but we do not want to remove the 4ws system... My father is going to NY in 2-3 weeks with the steering rack of the car and he is going to look for a American steering rack for the car.

Here is my question, In USA there are Honda prelude 4WS?
If he go to USA with the Steering Rack of the car, can he find the same Steering rack but the American version>?

Thanks Very much.

He lives in the Dominican Republic, and they have a strict law against RHD cars since a few years ago they had a couple of accidents which were blamed on the cars involved being RHD. Nonsense, but that's what drove the legislation.

Your best bet would be to see if you can source lhd 4WS parts from Europe.

Why dont you just get your dad to find you a lude from the US? Wouldn't it be just as easy/hard as getting an entire cars suspension/steering gear from europe bto the DR(and all the interior stuff too)? TYhat just seems so much work.

That's true, but remember that the cars from japon are really cheap, want to know how much he paid for the car,1300 Dollar + shipping 666dollar + taxes 3000 dollar= 4966 dollar. And why he is thinking of going to NY? Because he is involved in the importing cars bussines from japon to DR. he is going back and is going to stop in NY for 3 days.

Because he love the 4ws system.

Right now the car is on the peurano( people from peru that chance the steering wheel from the right to left.) and they are going to tell him what he need to buy but, If it's so expensive he is going to chance the steering wheel and lose the 4ws.

hey, marco, I'm just curious, but why did taxes cost more than car and shipping? that is amazing....

Would it be possible to import one to the US? Would it cost just as much? Thank you

1300 Dollar + shipping 666dollar + taxes 3000 dollar= 4966 dollar.
The cars from japon are really cheap, if they are from 2002 or older. you will need to search for the shipping cost, . And the tax system is really rare because they charge you the 20 to 40% of the original price of the car.

Yep you can import from japon to US.

Let us know what parts he uses and how it works out for you (especially to retain the 4WS).
