I took off my engine (tip for engine removal)

OK.... I finally took out my engine....
this is my first time ever taking out an engine... hoo~~ im excited..
it took me 4 nights (about 3-4 hours each night).... including today....

here is some tip for engine removal...
if you are going to remove engine here are some tips from me...
1. Definately get helms manual... this is a must!!!!!
2. First step should be draining all the fluids (radiator, engine, transmission, atts), and then take out radiator....
if you take out the radiator you get so much more space to work with... specially bolts for the alternator, and ac compressor...
3. Definately remove crank pully before you pull the engine out...
i didnt do that and my pully got damaged, also there is no room if you dont remove pully... (transmission gets stuck)

did anyone else had problem with pully or was it just me?
now i HAVE TO BUY aftermaket pully... what would you guys recommend? aem? unortodox racing?
now im just waiting for my block to come back from GE....
i sent my spare block out last friday and they said it takes about 2 to 4 weeks...

well.. here are some pics... enjoy~~!!

is that a chip out of your pulley? cause i chipped mine when i was trying to get the engine back in. i said f* it! i will worry about it later. maybe if i get pulleys i will look for a set that has a crank pulley as well.

my only concern is that the pulley is now off balance, and will eventually ruin my engine. but its been that way for about a year now. sooner or later i will get it replaced.

Here are some tips that I've found from the multiple engine R&R's that I've done (probably 5 on Preludes alone!):

1. Remove the alternator next time, you'll have a lot more room to work with.
2. Removing the crank pulley is a very good idea, as you've found out.
3. If anything binds, STOP. That way you don't tear up connectors that are still connected!

I also have a stock 5Gen (98) crank pulley. If you're interested in it, let me know.

ive been able to remove the motor without taking the crank pulley off. its a tight fit but never really had problems. def remove the alternator, ps and ac. taking the headering off will give u some extra room too.

i've done a couple and each and everytime... never took off the pulley before hand

looking at the engine.. i would have removed the header and the alternator along with all and any of the brackets attached to the engine

as far as the chip goes... it's not goign to do anything.. maybe shred the outside edge of the belt a little.. but nothing major.. with the crank pulley.. the main concern is in the rubbery part in teh middle.. if there are a lot of cracks.. then it might be a good idea to replace...

new they are about 140 i think from majestic aka hondaautomotiveparts.com

I'm guessing you guys are pulling the motor from the top. If you have a lift to use, dropping the motor is easier IMO.

Yeah, if you have a lift, or some way to lift the body up 3 feet.

The crank pulley is $107 retail, and can be had for $80 from the online discount Honda shops (www.manhonda.com www.hondaautomotiveparts.com etc). I'd be willing to sell mine for $50.

I had this happen to me on my old eclipse. Basically the rubery part in the middle got worn so the pulley got seprated from each other and wasnt functionin, this caused the ac ps belt to rip i forget wich one, then that belt went through an opening behind the crank pulley and into the T-belt compartment, and got stuck between my brand new T-belt and caused it to rip so i pulled over right away. I heard a noise so I suspected my t-belt right away, but i left the car there and took the bus to work, called my dad and asked him to get it towed and told him not to try starting it. Well he dosent believe me and pushes the car down a hill on a roll and tries to start it thinking its just alternator or something else that went out. Well whatever valves i didnt bend (i dont think i bent any since i herd bang automatically put in nuetrall and car shut down, so i just coasted to the medium and did not try starting it) Needless to say I had to replace head.
