I Can't Turn My Starter Key

It's permanently locked. This morning, the wheel was not locked, and it would not turn with all my might. So in trying to start it, I ended up locking the wheel, but the key would not turn even before that. Has anyone ever encountered this issue?

Smellerton, do you have a spare key? I would try that. Otherwise, check to see if the key is broken or somethng.

If all else fails, try lube.

go buy a blank honda key at walmart and lube it up with graphite lube, jiggle it in and out a lot. sometimes one of the tumbler pins stick... but it usually doesn't happen in your kind of climate heh

I've noticed that at times. Try pulling the key out just a tad bit and then turn the key....works everytime!

Funny how you said this. I had to always do that at work! Fricken front door lock would never turn if you shoved it all the way in. You had to always fiddle with the key to find the sweet spot.

And yes smellerton does know not to use the red key.

Well, my car has done it a few times and Keith's car is like that ALL the time. It took me forever to figure out how to start his car!

There was an ignition recall, but I thought it had to do with the key coming out while the engine was running.

You could try taking the thing apart and manually turning it with the key nearby to activate the immobilizer.

Can they even tow a car with the steering wheel turned to the right

Any car can be towed.

You could remove the steering column covers, undo the key-lock cylinder, and then the part that is connected directly behind the cylinder (after you remove the key-lock) has a slot in the center which allows you to start the car. Stick your key (or screwdriver) in it while having your key near it for the code recognition. You should be able to start the car.

My civic was broken into and I was able to drive it to the dealership that way. The thief did most of the work for me.

So you could drive it like its hot!

You could always have a new key cut and tape the old one on it to test her out. Yeah, it's possible you are no longer lifting the tumblers enough to allow the cylinder to turn.

i had this happen once. I used WD 40 like a year ago and have never had another problem. Spray it in and let it sit for a moment then use the key and work in the WD 40. I sprayed it a couple times and finally it started working

Ellerton, were you stuck somewhere and had to eat the key to survive?

Take the red key and see just how deep the rabbit hole goes.
