how to reset factory keyless entry

I just bought my car second-hand.. the keyless entry does not work, and the previous owner has no idea why. I was wondering how you would go about resetting the keyless entry to work with your keyfob? The keyfob has batteries and lights up when you push a button.

Thanks.
-Brian.

you should really take that to a honda dealer to get that done, i was watching the dealer do it to my car, and he was turning the key in the ignition while he pressed the button and listening for something, i wasn't paying too much attention to him but thats what i caught. hope that helps you out, you also might want to think about getting an alarm anyways, it is a nice addition and you can get a window module to control the windows like close them when you lock your car etc. after all it is a nice car, and i don't think you want anything stolen from it.

Programming directions!

Turn the ignition on(start car). Press Unlock Button. Turn ignition off. Turn Ignition On. Press Unlock Button. Turn Ignition Off. Turn Ignition On. Press Unlock. Turn Ignition Off. Turn Ignition On and press Unlock. you should hear the central locking "clunck. that is all there is to it.

Thanks cweb!

PreludeSSWhite, your e-mail isn't listed, so I couldn't e-mail you.

If this doesn't work, I guess that this would mean there is something wrong with the keyless entry system, right?

What are my choices if that is the case? I like the look of the factory remote entry thing.

Thanks again.

remote

The remote should work if it is from a 97+ Prelude, the Accord, Passport, etc. remotes will not work. The remotes are about $150 each at Honda (hope they at least buy you dinner first). You can pick them up every now and then on ebay, just make sure the part #matches exactly.

And you only have 10 sec between steps in the programming, (if you programming 2 remotes click the first and second within this time period) if you go over you have to start again. You can program up to four remotes for each car.

Alright, well, I did what cweb told me, and it worked.

Only problem is that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Any ideas?
