I've been doing some more detailing on my car lately and I purchased a new set of door/seal molding and new rear quarter windows to replace the ruined, moldy originals. I've looked up some of the writeups that detail how to restore these pieces but opted to do it this way, replacing them outright.
So... what I have been able to find out is how to replace the door molding just below the side windows on the doors. What I need a little help with is how to remove the rear quarter windows completely so new ones can be installed.
I've looked over the new ones and it looks like they just clip in and you apply some bonding agent or sealer to mate them to the body. Am I right?
To remove them... it looks as if I must remove the plastic panels on either side of the back seats.
Can anyone offer me some advice on where to start with this?
yeah how much do those quarter panel moldings cost. I wanna set of those also cause every 5th gen this same problem. What is the part # also. Pretty please
The rear quarter glass cost me about $72 each from a retailer.
Honda part numbers are:
73561-S30-901 Driver's side glass
73511-S30-901 Passenger side glass
I also ordered door moldings 72235-S30-003 and 72275-S30-003 but opted not to install them because of the complexity. Also, there is one other rubber molding part for each door that goes under these I forgot to buy. For those parts, I'm just going to restore what's already there.
These parts come with the quarter window and glass molded together, so if you have any tinting, you might want to get them matched before installing them.

With that said, it's easier than it looks! Be very careful not to gouge the top of your interior door panels with the screwdriver! Use the rag to block contact. If you feel uncertain about this, have a body shop do it. I ended up breaking both of my old molding parts on purpose because I had new ones to snap in afterward. Restoration requires quite a but more care and finesse, so just beware of what you are getting into.
Anyway, I still have few ideas on how to get to the rear quarter windows, so help, help anyone
P.S. Yash, then why are the S2000 and NSX so popular and competetive? RWD is better, even just to fly around in a parking lot.
Rear windows are a bitsh!!!!!! You need piano wire or something similar. Then you get it fed out through, between the car body and the glass/weatherstripping, then use a sawing motion to cut the adhesive. Good luck!!
if its anything like the 1/4 windows in a 4th gen , you CANNOT reach those plastic clips, youll just have to cut them to pop out the window, and dont be suprised if you bust a window, or both the adhesive the factory uses is wonderful sh*t but awful if you want to take the window out. honestly taking a hammer to the window is the fastest and easiest way. id buy new quarter windows when painting the car just so i didnt have to mess with taking out the old ones. complete pita

if its anything like the 1/4 windows in a 4th gen , you CANNOT reach those plastic clips, youll just have to cut them to pop out the window, and dont be suprised if you bust a window, or both the adhesive the factory uses is wonderful sh*t but awful if you want to take the window out. honestly taking a hammer to the window is the fastest and easiest way. id buy new quarter windows when painting the car just so i didnt have to mess with taking out the old ones. complete pita

theres a special windsheild knife you can buy for around 16-20 bucks,all it is is a bent blade with a thick handle,as for the adhesive you use to put the new one on,you can find at any bodyshop supply store,as for the pins,those are guide pins which you can cut off,not a big deal,just make sure you use a razor blade to cutoff the old extra urethane adhesive not only on the quarter panels but also the backside of the glass
you'll need a caulking gun for the adhesive,and just make sure you put enough of there so you dont get water leaks,put a tall bead on there and the quarter glass will spread it out more once its on there
X01VTEC and Chung, thank you! I'll look into getting that cutting tool and the adhesive. I'm just going to outright replace the quarter windows and try to preserve the old ones just to offload them on the cheap.
no problem,i work in a bodyshop so things like this are actually pretty simple,alot of cars will have the quarter glass bolted in like saturns,mustangs,etc.but as far as i know theres no hondas that have them bolted in
dont worry if you scrape the paint,the urethane will cover it,actually the urethane is made to go onto bare metal,if its going onto fresh paint,theres a special primer that needs to be put on top of that paint,its like 20 bucks just for that primer which is like the size of a finger nail polish bottle,but once you put that urethane on there and get the glass on there it'll spread it out and cover up any scratches you make,plus you cant see any scratches from the outside since it dips in right there,and the blade on the knife isnt too long,they make a air powered knife that's got like a 3 inch blade on them but you only use that as a last resort
Once again I'm having to put off this minor project for a week at least. I have a grant pitch to get ready for this Wednesday. Car stuff takes a backseat. For now.
