How much for timing belt change + more?

Its about that time for me to change it. Not really have a problem but I want to change it before anything bad happens.

I know its more expensive to go through the dealership but is it worth paying the extra to do it? The dealership in town sucks so i have to go 15 miles away for the other, more reputable dealership if I do go to a dealership.

Where did you get yours done (dealer/local shop) and how much did everything cost?

Please add other things that you did change at the same time...i.e. water pump, valve timing with price. Thanks

you could replace the stock cams and cam gears with more aggressive cams and tunable sprockets

And I THINK the dealership replaces everything needed when doing the timing belt.
Maybe the hydraulic tensioner too...even though I think it could last to about 100k?

Do it yourself if you can.
Write Up: Timing belt, cams, cam gears, thermostat, fan switch
Cams and cam gears are easy to do if you're changing the timing belt.

I'd like to know this info, too. My Lude only has 70K on it, but it's seven years old, and according to Honda, it's every 90K or seven years ...

I am planning on having a reputable shop do it (they've been in business for years doing nothing but fixing Hondas). I just have intake and exhaust for "power" mods; do I have to worry about the tensioner?

Replace all valve cover gaskets and also the cam oil seal with an aluminum golden eagle aftermarket one.

I think it's worth it to do it yourself. Maybe I'm jsut untrusting of your average grease monkey. Or maybe I've heard too many stories of shops screwing up or screwing you. I chose to tackle this myself and I knew everything was done correctly. I used Joon525's writeup and the Helms.

You should replace the water pump and the autotensioner and balance shaft if doing the timing belt. All of the parts cost me about $225.

I know Scott (H22 BB6) and Keith (The Oreo) recently got timing belts done. You could PM them and ask how much they paid.

You can't really ask me... my timing belt and auto-tensioner were covered under my extended warranty because the auto-tensioner went early... around 70k miles. However, I would expect to pay around $700-800 from a dealer between parts and labor. I believe its a 5-6 hour job.

Be like me and become good friends with someone how works at Honda and get them to do it on their off time. I got mine done with a FULL tune-up at 108k miles for a little over 400. This included changing the tensioner because it was leaking and doing a valve adjustment because i was hearing some clicking.

No its a auto tensioner for the timing belt. They are known to fail too. If you are replacing your timing belt it would be a good idea to do the autotensioner too.

interesting. i called my local dealer and they said it was only going to be about $450. I even told them the vehicle. They said that was normal. They are normally fairly average. That price did not include any coupon or anything i am aware of. Then again, im in ohio, and my cost of living is lower. You cali people WILL pay more for about anything & everything.

What does that $450 include? Timing & Balancer belt, for sure - but a new tensioner? Water pump? Accessory belts?

You'll want to change all of those, and dealer prices are going to add up to at least $375 just in parts for all of that, no matter where you live. Or you can buy all the parts yourself through San Leadro or Majestic and it'll save you quite a bit of money.

^$450 sounds like parts and labor for T-belt. I doubt that also included the water pump and other things you should do at the same time.

Well that sounds around the range that i paid for the water pump, t-belt and tentioner back in 02. Maybe somewhere around 550-600 now for all including labor @ 59.00 an hour.
