How much is my car worth??

I have a 2001 Honda Prelude Base. 5 speed/EBP. Last year made, only year they made the Blue Pearl. It has only 51,000. Sat in my garage for since 2003
Blew the motor and spent my money on other things, finance/baby/atv.etc.
Only brought it out to clean etc..

It's never been in a accident, I bought it new 1 week before the Sept.11 attacks. All it needs is a motor and a transmission. Completely stock except for wings west rs body kit. carbon fiber hood. So if a I had a new motor in it, how much do you think I could get?

LOl.. .No it's a carbon fiber hood. It's not latched!! Because I need to put a new engine in it. I'm thinking about put a Type-S h22a in it.. So it will be like you see it w/ type-s engine/lsd tranny. WHat's the most you think my cars worth to a honda prelude lover.

Way to low!!!

KBB value is $11,900.. I wouldn't take any less than $18,000. We would have to see. It would take a special buyer... Someone who really wanted a prelude like new. 7 years later.

I'd say your car with that new motor would be about 15k tops. Its not like its got insane amounts invested. If your just going to sell it might as well just throw another USDM motor in it since its a lot less work. You can buy some 350z for 18k and a few other cars as well. I'd say 18k is a bit high.

My '01 has about 59,xxx Miles..does that qualify for the low mile club?? ..that EBP is teh hottness! IMO maybe even the best color for the Lude. $18,000 is definitely wayy too much for it though..at tops I think you'd get 14.

P.S. I assume you have another car? Either way, I'd feel terrible leaving my Lude to rot away in the garage for 5 years!

That's a beautiful car. You'd have to find a well-heeled prelude nut to get the numbers you are talking about. Any engine replacement is going to devalue the car compared to if it were stock with that mileage. The replacement hood is also a detractor. To keep it at top dollar buy a brand new or "zero miles" rebuilt (from a reputable place) USDM engine. Why not leave it as stock as possible and stick with the original 5-speed transmission?

Also, sitting in a garage undriven for 5 years is not a benefit, unless you've evacuated the brake and coolant systems and kept the weight off the suspension while it was parked.

These cars are not Ferrari's or Porsches so I tend to disagree with the appeal of super low miles being a driving factor. In a way Honda's longevity works against you here...there really isn't much of a difference in intrinsic quality between an older Prelude with 50K miles on it and one with 100K. Keep in mind I'm doing a leak-down test on any car before I buy it.

I really don't mean to sound like a jerk (honestly...my mom says I'm a very nice person) but $18K for your car with a CF hood and a replaced engine/tranny versus $12K for this (from a $$$ Infiniti dealer no less):

Cars.com: 2001 Honda Prelude

There's plenty of similar examples in the $9K to $12K range. These are fun cars to drive but not collector items.

KBB is inflated. $11,900 assumes the car is in pristine condition, which yours is obviously not with the blown motor + tranny. Even if you did put a new tranny and engine in there, i doubt you'd get much more than $9k tops. Just because it's EBP doesn't mean anything and the Prelude isn't like the Integra Type-R or anything. It's nothing really special. MAYBE if it was a 01 EBP Type SH.... but even that's a long shot.

I think you're better off fixing the car and enjoying it for yourself. Like you said, "it would take a special buyer.." with a whole lotta emphasis on "special" to pay you what you want.

Just being honest here.

Without a new drivtrain, it may be worth 3k, with, it might, I mean might be 7-8k bucks max, but thats just because like string said, these cars are great to drive, but arent exactly collectables. No offens, but you want 18k for a car with a replaced engine?? No way bro, not even a nut would make a horrible move like that. You say it has 50k original miles...yeah, well that really doesn't matter when the drivetrain isn't original, sorry.

Someone already asked and the question wasn't answered: How was the motor blown, and the tranny ruined?? ??

The car sin't that nice, I mean half of it is aftermarket anyways, there is hardly anything body-wise "original" about it, it looks like an everyday ricer; to want anything over 10K is ridiculous.

What do you think you have here that is worth 18K, if you can tell me that, than maybe it would be worth buying. Rare paint isn't even close to enough to make a car worht twice as much. There was a girl on the forum a couple months ago that wanted to sell some year(think 01') prelude in San Fran that had 24K ORIGINAL MILES!! Everything original, and by the end of that thread, people were agreeing on its worth of about 13-16 grand.....I highly doub't and honestly think that car with a new drivetrain(that has less mile than the car at least) be about 9 at best.

Actually yeah my 15k was way too high. I'd say KBB now if it gets a type S motor.

Your base model with almost 52k miles, which needs the engine and trans replaced, and has an aftermarket hood and body kit is not in "mint condition". After 5 years the gasoline might have turned to varnish and rubber rots with time. As mentioned above these are not "collector" cars, and its not a Type SH. What you have there is a nice "project car". You may want to reset the maintenance indicator so the potential buyer doesn't think the engine had to replaced due to a lack of maintenance.

Dang people.. The reason why the car was sitting in the garage is because I blew the motor.. Reason, Going from 5th gear to 2nd. Doesn't go well!!!
I have the stock hood! And That's a lip kit. Only is secured by 3m tape/screws that go into the factory locations. So I can quickly be changed back to stock. As far as the maint. reminder. I liked the color RED better. GREEN is ugly and didn't match the regular AMBER light's in the vehicle!!! I'm a mechanic at a LEXUS dealer and the vehicle had been maint. every 3k miles. Only fault was mis-shift!! What ever, I wasn't trying to sell it on here, I just wanted to know what people thought this vehicle is worth? So, nevermind then. I guess it's worth more to me than to everyone elese. I mean, how often do you see cars that are 7 years old and never in a accident /paint work these days. Slim to none. I only drove my for almost 2 years and put 51k on it in that time, the rest spent in my garage. As far as the fluid evacuation, the motor and tranny have been out of it since day 1 of it blowing! So no fluids/gas/coolant etc.. are in the vehicle. Well thank you for your help guys/and I don't understand how your on a prelude forum and you called this car a ricer?? What are you doing on this page then. So because I have tein coilovers/cf hood/jdm fogs etcc.. that's rice? I think that's true jdm not Autozone ricer bs. Whatever.. Well thanks for the opinions.

Well, you asked what prelude owners / aficionados thought the car was worth and you got a bunch of insightful responses and some 'blunt' responses. No need to be upset...a bit thicker skin on some of the comments might be required, for sure. Bottom line is that if you love the car, then hang onto it -- just don't expect it to be worth 50% higher than the 'consumer' book price on the car.

Bro, unless you live in a big city a 7 year old car with no paint repair or accidents is no big deal. Your car is nice..beautiful..but sorry it isn't special. As a mechanic you KNOW any car sitting for five years is not cool, what's up with that?
