Re: how long on E can i drive?

okay.. we Canadians up here use litres instead of gallons but I believe the concept is the same. our 'ludes have 60litre tanks and I know for a fact that everytime I go fill-up at or around the time my gas-light goes on... I end up filling about 45litres. this means that the light turns on when I still (technically) have a quarter (25%) tank left.

so for you.. If everytime you get 260miles before the light turns on... I'd say its a safe bet that you can still milk about 87miles AFTER the light turns on before you go completely dry. and even then you might be able to run a few miles on vapour

You get 260 per tank? I'm getting 360+. Something's wrong with your 'Lude, dude.

I'll bet you can go AT LEAST another 125 miles after you see the orange light. I'll bet you have a defective gas gauge. Try it and let us know how it comes out.

The highest I've seen here in BC is:

94 = Chevron
91 = Shell

I've never seen the orange light, but everytime I'm on E I try to push just a little more. Got it up to 350 miles then chickened out and gased up. I'm afraid that my light doesn't work because on my 2001 lude it alway came on, but never seen it in my 98.

You guys musta broken in your cars really good or something.................................the highest I have ever gotten was 330-340 and that was ALL highway driving. I get around 280 regular driving. I can't see how you can get 360 REGULAR driving...

if you run out of gas...you may need to replace your fuel pump! thats why they have the light turn out...fuel pumps need some fuel for pressure purposes.

best tank is 425miles all highway going 90mph on 12.76 gallons of gas

worst is 301 I think. all city and racing around.

I get 350 - 360 highway driving if i use vtec sparingly. If i use vtec on the highway, cut that down to 320 -330. And as for city driving, usually around 300 - 310. Just lay off vtec for a bit, you'd be surprised

I usually go another 50-60 miles once my light comes on. I know its getting empty whenI'm on the offramp and there is a lower fuelcut since the fuel is being pulled away from the pump.

On a related note, do you guys ever feel your car is a little more sluggish with near empty tank?

For me it feels like mine has a little less get up and go when under 1/4 tank, but it may just be in my head

less fuel pressure...which may means your engine isn't getting as much fuel.

no...it's not in your head....I definitely notice a difference when you have more fuel as compared to close to nothing....VTEC is so much better right after you fill up!
