How to install a autometer tach?

My friend sold me is shift tach for 20 bucks which was a badass deal, but I have no clue on how to install this thing. It just has 3 or 4 long ass wires so any suggestions would be cool

Go to the Autometer website. I do believe they have instructions there. If not ask them to send them to you-just include the model and serial number in your e-mail. Meanwhile-most tachs have a red power wire and a black ground. The other 2 leads are used for the tach signal and possibly the dash lights circuit (if a full tach setup).
Hope that helps ya

For those who are having problems with their tach...
If your tach works when the headlights are off and the tach shuts off when the headlights are on...
If your shift light doesn't light up but the back-light lights up instead....
If when you hit the preassigned shift point and the tack jumps off and comes back down...

you need to run a relay to the headlight fuse under the hood. We hooked up numerous tachs to my car and they all did the same thing (all three listed above). We had all the right wires to the right sources (red: power, black: ground, white: 12V light, green: tach). We called Autometer. Their response? Check the ground. Well when its grounded to the battery, you lose faith in Autometer. Have no fear! Run the relay and you're problems are solved

Sounds like that tach is smokin' hot... there might not be a serial number on it....
