How the heck do I do this?

How do you swap out a shift boot on a 5th gen? It looks like I basically have to remove the whole piece of plastic around it... but it isn't wanting to go anywhere.

Anyone?

take the complete center console out of the car. Turn it upside down and unscrew the boot mount. I dont know what else to tell you.

this sucks for me, I just put on my new Trust shift knob and then my boot bites the dust.. taking off the knob will suck because the soft aluminum threads fit onto the shifter and when I screw it back on it won't fit quite the same.
