How do you feel about "rebuilt status"

I am in the market for a 5th gen prelude
Unfortunately the dealerships where I live have them priced over 10k. Moreover, almost all the private listed ones i have looked at have had a "rebuilt status." How do you guys feel about these. Are they a deal or has the integrity of the car been compromised? What would you check and double check regarding a "rebuilt" prelude before buying?

Cheers

I have a rebuilt prelude. It runs great. Its a good way to get a discount, but make sure to check for a couple of things.

1. was the frame bent? has that compromised the structural integrity of the car?
2. Did the bags blow? Were they replaced?
3. make sure you find out how reputable the company who did the rebuild was. If it was some guy in his garage, i'd be extremely weary.
4. how long ago was the rebuild? if its been more than 10,000 then it seems to be running well.
5. check for leaks, do the normal inspection ect.

If it was rebuilt recently, it may still have a warranty. Is it transferable?

I also have a rebuilt/salvage title lude and it is great. There have been a few small surprises when working on it, but nothing major. I got lucky since I didn't really know what I was doing when I bought it.
follow acronkright's advice but also try and find out what happened...
In my situation there was some front-end damage that insurance decided would be cheaper to total the car rather than fix it. Luckily there was no frame damage and the guy who fixed it up did bodywork in his spare time so I got lucky.
