Any time you change the rate of exhaust flow you'll more than likely cause a rich running condition because the A/F meter thinks that more air is moving through the engine and is trying to prevent a lean running condition.
Best solution to realize 35mpg is convert to OBD1, EMS of your choice and tune.

i also have been thinking about the Check Engine Light on? its been on for a While. I was goin to clean my egr valves run seafoam in it and also get a mechanical O2 bung or Adapter that has a filter so there wont be any cel issues? Does this sound like a Good Idea???
I also wanted to know if any of you guys had a write-up for the Egr Ports Cleaning?
I would first see why the CEL is on and go from there.
A bad primary O2 would really mess stuff up.

go buy a spark plug defouler and install it into teh bung int eh test pipe. The rethread teh defouler so that the o2 sensor threads into it and you will be good.
How bad exactly is your mileage? I am having the same problem with my Prelude that I just bought last week. I didn't have a CEL though, so you definitely need to start there. But I found out my problem was/is that I have a "B18C" ECU in place of my Prelude ECU. So you could always pull up your carpet and see WTF is up there...
^You might want to look further into that ECU. Most of the time when a P72 is in place of another ECU it's because it has been modified and enable the car to be tuned. It might turn out to be a good thing that it's there.

Yea, but mine is a P73. And there are 3 wires on the harness that are spliced with butt connectors. I'm thinking my car was stolen at some point
Does that sound like an idea Kronn? I mean what would u do?
