I've been meaning to go in and get a new one, cause I only have 1 key for my car, and since they should be replacing my ignition switch for free, that mean I get 4 keys

After reading through this thread, I decided to sign up for the Owner Link thing and now I wish I hadn't. I take privacy and security very seriously and I have to admit, Owner Link is just terrible. Stores the VIN in a cookie, sure the login process is encrypted but the entire login session is not, emailed me a confirmation of registration that included my password in clear text, you can change your password within Owner Link but that too would be in clear text, the list goes on.... argghhh
Am I the only one that gets irritated by this? I know that my expectations may be higher than most, but this is horrible
p.s. sorry, I had to vent and since nobody else is around me right now I write it here
You will NOT get a new Lock Cylinder assembly-the swtich is mounted to that component and only IT is replaced. Been there-saw the parts-very simple.

Uh no. They're not replacing the ECU either.

How do i know if any recalls were done on my car, i am not the original owner (does that matter) can i take it to honda and they will know if all the recalls have been done
i think they would send you something in the mail about it. cause on my cbr600rr they sent me a recall letter for the rear brake hoses still need to get that done

Won't happen. They will have the igntion coded/cut (whatever the term is) to your original key. If they give you new keys then you will have to get new lock assemblies for the doors and trunk.
I've had my ignition replaced due to theft in my civic. They just did the above and did not give me any new keys.

the recall campaign covered 97-99 Preludes, and even then it wasn't all 97-99s, but VIN specific. Since you have an '01, I don't imagine they'd refund you unless you can somehow present them evidence that your switch failed because of, or in the same way the affected switches covered under the recall failed.
The short background for the recall is:
Quote:
Electrical contacts in the ignition switch can wear
prematurely due to high electrical current passing
through the switch. Worn out ignition contacts could
cause the engine to stall without warning. Although the
engine will restart in most cases, a vehicle that stalls
while driving increases the risk of a crash.
if the recall wasn't done by an absent-minded technician, there should be a center-punch mark above the 8th digit on the engine compartment VIN.
